KINTYRE PUBLIC ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND DROP IN SESSION

A drop in event has been organised to bring the general public up to speed on the major infrastructure projects in the pipeline for Campbeltown.

The event, at Campbeltown’s Town Hall on Wednesday, March 10 from 11am-7pm, hopes to attract anyone who is interested in hearing first-hand about the biggest financial investment in Campbeltown in a generation.

Project team managers and members from Argyll and Bute Council and partners will be present all day to discuss projects being undertaken in Campbeltown, including:

· Redevelopment of Campbeltown Marina

· Regeneration of Kinloch Road, including new social housing from ACHA

· Significant infrastructure works to Campbeltown Harbour, Park Square and the route to the factory to support the development of renewable energy technology at Machrihanish

· Early proposals for an all weather pitch in Campbeltown

In addition, representatives will be available from Skycon to talk about what they are doing at the wind turbine manufacturing facility at Machrihanish.

Councillor John Semple, Chair of Campbeltown CHORD Project Board, encouraged members of the public to go along to the event.

“This is a very ambitious and forward looking time for Campbeltown. This drop-in event is an opportunity for the community to learn about what will be happening, speak to the people who will be implementing the plans and let us know what you think,” he added.

“This investment is additional to the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme and the Townscape Heritage Initiative and forms part of the Council’s wider £30m programme of regeneration and economic development projects in the Council’s 5 main waterfront towns.”

A real opportunity for you to show support for the AWP under this project. We have one chance of the AWP being provided in Campbeltown in the near future and to be part funded by this project. If it doesn't happen now, and on Kinloch it will be back to the AWP under the school estate and will be delivered with the new grammar school in 5,10, 15 years - who knows when! Please go along and show your support for the AWP.

I will be going along but I have to say that Iike Darren on another thread, I was really disappointed with the turn out of 16 at the Consultation Evening by PMR Leisure on Tuesday.

Please do attend. Your support could be the difference in ensuring this happens. Lets all make the effort - ask 5 friends to go. If this doesn't happen on Kinloch it won't happen.

Without wishing to detract in any way from the need for the AWP, please remember all the other issues at the drop in session which will have a significant impact on the town.

Yes. I wasn't really aware of the whole project until someone asked me in the street yesterday to go along and support the proposal for the pitch on Kinloch. At least the profile has been raised through this.

It does make you wonder though. The Council are working on all of these various projects but how are the public supposed to know? They have the open day but I haven't seen anything about it so how are we supposed to know what is going on?!

I have just come from the drop in session and it is well worth a visit. It's all there, all the projects that are happening in town, as well as the proposed AWP, and they are looking for people's views on the various developments.

The proposal for the new road from Longrow to Kinloch Road is displayed along with the new housing development at Park Square and the proposals for Hall Street. Also the marina development and the extension to the New Quay and the work at Skykon.

Please do not miss the opportunity to drop in and sign the petition for the AWP.

... why go out of the way to put the all weather pitch at the bottom of the list and preface it with "early proposal" ? It isn't a new proposal at all !

We are all on the same team (hopefully), we all want to see the betterment of Campbeltown. ... yet I could recount 20 years worth of projects being sold on the strength of economic development, jobs etc etc. Campbeltown is, and remains an unemployment blackspot ! Explain ?!

While economic development is vitally important to any community, CAMPBELTOWN predates, and will outlive any single established or proposed business venture ! Or to put it another way, businesses come and go, a community doesn't.

Why don't we have the same facilities enjoyed by our Argyll neighbours & taken for granted elsewhere?
This is a facility that will be enjoyed by all, promotes healthy activity, and is one less "excuse" that there's nothing to do here of an evening !

The town hall is still open until 7pm ... should you not already have done so, I would ask that you (and as many people as you can muster) go along and register your preference for funding to be allocated towards an all weather pitch.

.... I've taken a day to rethink what I origninally typed here last night. In hindsight, it wasn't helpful at all, and for that I apologise. However, it was well meaning.

If people can organise a significant turn out, given 4 days notice, think what could be mustered come election day !

It's not what Campbeltown can do for you, it's what you can do for Campbeltown. (because lets face it, the place is not a shadow of its former self)

Please think about that, and for the sake of every man, woman & child that lives here, at least give fair consideration to all the options on the table. The phrase "without prejudice" springs to mind. That is all that's being asked.

If you can, then fair play to you, if you can't ... then consider yesterday a shot across the bows ....

because we should be united at the end of the day, we really should be ... our own little Common Purpose.

That is an interesting point £3.73, I left rather bemused at what we as a community were really getting for £6.5 million pounds. Both the Marina and the new road development through Kinloch Road looked excellent and exciting but that seemed to be it? There wasn't enough information to hand either. You have to wonder how much money is being wasted on fees etc and at the same time the Council are contemplating shutting our town hall to save a few thousand pound!

Again, great points !

Other threads on the forum make for some very depressing reading indeed !
Re-development is all well and good. However, potentially losing iconic infrastructure and/or sky-rocketing hire charges for existing facilities .... what kind of mixed message is that ?

Maybe someone knows the answer. I certainly don't.

UV made a very good point - there does not seem to be any detail or information regarding the costings of each part of the CHORD project - i.e. where is the £6.5m going? It would be good to know how much of it has been spent already on consultations and other expenses and what the breakdown of the remainder will be. Perhaps the Chair of the CHORD project could enlighten us?

I popped in to the Council Chambers last Wednesday to support the CHORD projects and found all the proposals very interesting. It was great to see the future developments are what exciting changes lie ahead for our wee toon! :D

I was very impressed with everything until I got to the AWP table! Once I had made my way round the Chambers to the AWP campaign all they had to view were some pictures on a laptop unlike the other projects which had plans, billboards, leaflets etc! I also had to ask to give my signature - makes me wonder how many signatures they missed out on considering I had to volunteer my support! As we were leaving the Chambers at 6.45pm the AWP were all packed up and ready for out the door despite all the other representitives still chatting to members of the public. :?
