Well I thought that, but if it is then you can no longer walk across the green from one side to the other. surely theyre not going to close the path off ?

Which is the more important thing here: the path or the all-weather pitch? A small detour, or Campbeltown's hundreds of amateur footballers having - at long last - decent facilities?

For the last 100 years there's been a pitch AND a path, I don't think pitches have grown that large in that time.

Mr Everready got it right its the temporary border for the fencing round the site while work is carried out. It was blocked Monday and Tuesday to finish off the connection to the main drain at the Aqualibrium end (this is also now incudes the drainage for the new housing and something else so for once there was joined up working to reduce the impact 8) )

If you want to walk from Princes Street side to Kinloch Road just now you have to take a detour through the play park but once completed the four routes as normal will be opened up again (albeit with a small detour round the north path as below.

 I know, I walk through the green most mornings and had to take a detour the last couple of mornings round the play park. 8)

When you look at the plans there are actually two new paths to the existing four; one from the changing rooms joining up with the north path on the plan and one now running from Kinloch Road to the middle path between the Aqualibrium and the All Weather Pitch so will have a couple of new choices. 8)

The question over the paths are valid points and good to see people are having an interest in the plans - I think there was genuine concern that there would be fencing where the red lines were when these are just the site fences so good to clarify.

Its not just football WC1 :D Hopefully we'll see Rugby making use of it over the winter and perhaps Shinty re-emerging.

Has a date been set for the opening match? If there hasn't been a Referee assigned, It would be a great priveldge for me to officiate.
SCD, we have briefly talked before about the possibity of me Refereeing a match in Town, If there is any dates that you have no officials ,and I'm Campbeltown bound, I'll certainly bring my kit.

Here's a wee photo taken by Adam Boyd showing the progress with the AWP.

Not sure when it is opening but not long now - must be within the next few weeks anyway.

Frosty, no nothing has been set in place. There will be an official opening in September (I believe)

Not sure what the plans are but if you are here I'm sure you can help out along with the local officials. When are you next here?

Everywhere was tried and found wanting. Peat issues at Kintyre Park and Meadows made it impossible. Outskirts of town is exposed to the prevailing west wind, and generations ago a pitch was abandoned because of this very reason. Last option was Kinloch Park, not the preferred choice - just the only one possible. Lets enjoy!

Great photos JD and Adam, they should raise the height of the fence behind the goals though?!?
I'll let you know some dates SCD, any game anywhere would be brilliant.
Enjoy the 3G everybody, just remember that the ball will bounce higher than normal plus the dimensions of the field of play are, or should be, at the maximum allowable so there is plenty of space to fill.

The field looks amazing, great job by all parties involved in getting this...wish they had this when I was growing up! These fields will be great for the development of young players in the town and will allow for a wide range of other sports to grow. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they put plans to develop another one in a few years once they realize what a success it has been.

One (inexpensive) suggestion I would make that is seen on most of the field here in the US, a small set of bleacher seating for any spectators wanting to sit and watch the games. Makes for a far more comfortable experience and looks great around the field.

Great job, Campbeltown! Can't wait to get a kick about on it.
