My assumption is that children may not necessarily believe that change involves either wind farms OR putting them in places of natural beauty.

I have a wee lady in my house who, when shown the initial photos at the SSE Exhibition taken from Machrihanish and Westport thought they looked "horrifical". I have quized her today about what she has learned at school. She has learned about Renewable Energy but she has also lived in Machrihanish for nearly all of her life and appreciates the wide open spaces and the fact that she can pull on her wetsuit and head to the "wee beach" with her boogie board whenever she wants. She wants to do something in the marine biology world when she grows up so her major worries lie with the effect this may have on the marine life and the dolphins she loves to see here every year. She is also very concerned for the gannets and the geese.
She is a confident and opinionated individual so I can assure you Bill these words are her own.

Are Kevin and John S saying that the stretch of water off, say, Macharioch and Polliwilline is their preferred site for off-shore turbines? Do they know that such areas being made available by Crown Estates, and that the electricity companies are interested in them?

And what does this say about the value put on the opinions of Southend people as opposed to those from Machrihanish?

Hi Mary, Crown Estates don't really care where these go. They opened up Scottish Coastal waters for the power companies to identify the most suitable sites. The companies did so in terms of water depth and wind potential without any consideration for land based impacts.

Marine Scotland, the planning body for coastal waters have mapped out potential sites for medium term wind, wave and tidal opportunities - these are much further off shore and cover most of the Clyde estuary and around to The Mull, but I think the area you mention is designated for potential tidal development so not there. Obviously I’m no expert and where ever these go someone is gonna be upset but if we can minimise the negatives and improve the benefits by moving the site then that would be my preferred option. The power companies will squeal because development costs will be higher and wind less favourable.

I'll tell you Mary, it's the longer term project proposal to erect more towers in the
sea from the Mull of Kintyre stretching over an area of coastline reaching to approx Auchenhoan.
Fkn preposterous!

So I take it that the first paragraph from the above article is a false representation of the facts ?

I would just like to know who these people are and what or who gave them the right to speak on this issue as if they represented majority local opinion. Just for balance, shouldn't the local committee now invite a presentation from the 'anti' lobby?

Judy Orr, chairman of the Machrihanish Offshore Windfarm Action Group, is addressing Campbeltown Community Council on Monday September 13th. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and is, as always, open to the public. All are welcome to come and hear the position of the 'anti lobby' to the proposed 'offshore' windfarm.

Where are these project proposals, taking turbines from the Mull to Auchenhoan, and who is behind them?
And is this the proposal that John S suggests in preferable to the Machrihanish one because he believes that fewer people are affected?

The first paragraph of the Press and Journal story is misleading and may be interpreted as a false representation of the facts.

It states: 'Communities across Argyll and Bute are working together to get maximum benefit from three proposed offshore windfarm sites' (Islay, Tiree and Kintyre).

I am not sure which groups within the community are involved in 'working together' but it would be good to know who they represent and what mandate they have.
