  whatever are you blethering on aboot? 8)

If you read the postings you will see that it has been highlighted that there is a need for sports across the board to be taken into consideration and not just that darned football.

With regards the Pipe Band vs Football - that happened in my day too so it ain't any different. Its sad the kids have to make a choice but sometimes that is what happens....

Everything in or about life, is choice. Your choice to do or not to do.
That is the question.

Aye Pop

Shame that the choice hadn't been between the Brass band and the fitba, the fitba would have been over subscribed.

But are we naw all glad that the pipers are so successful?? 8) 8)

The following news article is on Argyll & Bute Council's web site and adds further insult to injury. I have not seen the field yet so cannot comment on how good or otherwise it is and I certainly was not aware that a new changing room was being built to service it. Shinty city now has the excellent Mossfield Park with an adjoining all weather pitch, flood lit rugby pitch, all weather five-a-side pitches at Atlantis Leisure and Park primary school, tennis courts, squash courts, gym and swimming pools with flume again at Atlantis Leisure and ten pin and indoor bowling in Shore Street.
Do you think that we are missing out on something :?:

COMMUNITY SPORTS PITCH NEARS COMPLETION
Mon, 06 Mar 2006 10:59:34
Oban and Lorn has a new sports pitch thanks to funding from Argyll and Bute Council’s capital programme, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund.

Located at Oban High School, the state of the art surface, to be operated and managed by the Council through a management committee, is suitable for a number of different sports.

Once the pitch is finished High School pupils will be the only users until the end of April. Once the changing facilities at the school are completed during the Easter holidays community groups and casual users will be able to book the pitch, outwith school hours, from May.

Argyll and Bute Council Depute Leader, Robin Banks said: “This impressive new facility will benefit the public of Oban and also schoolchildren through a range of sporting activities.

“It is part of the council’s ongoing strategy for updating or renewing sports grounds across the area and is a sign of our continued commitment to provide the means to improve the health of our residents.”

An official opening of the facility is being planned for sometime in June. Special guests will perform the opening ceremony and a Festival of Youth Sport will demonstrate the diversity of uses of the pitch. Applications for use are welcome on forms available from Community Learning in early April.

The project is part of the council's playing fields strategy which has built or assisted playing field development to date in Helensburgh, Garelochhead and Dunoon, and will in future provide further all weather facilities in Tarbert.

Lochgilphead, Rothesay, Dunoon and Helensburgh will all get new facilities as part of the NPDO Schools Project.

Aye it is a right scunner Oorly...

Everywhere but Campbeltown.

The Sports Council has asked to meet with representatives from the Council to discuss the project as a whole.

What are peoples thoughts on what the town (Kintyre) requires and where would be the best place for this to go? (if we could get one!)

I get the impression that the Council are still trying to move this project forward but we don't want to find out in 3 years time it is dead. There is also a suggestion that it must go beside the Grammar as eductaional use was to the fore at the outset of the whole project.

Any thoughts, points, comments etc would be appreciated.
