Is there any plans to walk on the roads with regards this walk?

Aye - hoots the scoop? Where do you walk from and to? How long?

Man, I want facts!

The initial proposal I heard back in 2003 was that there was to be little or no main road crossing, the route would start at Inveraray and end in southern Kintyre.

I saw a map of the proposed route last year and for the most part it's off-road but there were one or two bits where they did follow the roads. Between Brackley to Carradale was one stretch, Saddell was another I remember.

It's in the Campbeltown Courier today. Most of it is just a joining up of what is there and giving the whole thing a name.

Scottish Executive and HIE etc are big on open access at the moment. The fact is, these tracks and roads could, and have been, walked on for years.

True, but it's all about 'branding'. By joining all the bits together and giving it a name you can, in effect, make the whole greater than the sum of its constituent parts.

Look at the West Highland Way, as example.

People who might have thought twice about coming on a walking holiday of Kintyre might well be attracted by the idea of having walked 'The Kintyre Way'. It's a set route, sooner or later the OS maps will be showing it, and the businesses along the route will be showing increased turnover as a result.

From June 10th you will be able to walk the length of Kintyre. Starting in Tarbert and finishing in Southend a mere 89 miles later. The walk looks really good as it goes from one side of the peninsula to the other on the way down. Looks like fun!

I heard tonight that the meeting in the Argyll Hotel was packed out and was standing room only. There seems to be a lot of interest in this.

Yes it was busy Malky.

There were 5 different people speaking (if I recall correctly) - Bob Chicken, Marcus Adams and Carole Fitzgerald all from the Kintrye Way, a young lady from The West Highland Way and Colin Hossacks from the Forestry Commission.

There appears to have been a lot of thought and hard work gone in to this (which many know of)

Perhaps the most interesting presentation came from Colin Hossacks who explained the route which I will try to remember and post here later!

There are a couple of bits on the road - I think the most notable one is on the west road round about Clachan if I recall correctly (??).

Trying to encourage the Kintyre Way people to come on here and explain - anyone know any of them to give them a gentle shove?

There will be a short section of walking along the main road around
Ballochroy, south of Ronachan. Walkers might use the beach below high tide mark on this
stretch but we cannot waymark this at this stage as it is obviously tide
dependant.
