A formal petition has been applied for on the 24th June to the Scottish Parliament Petition Committee for the planned methadone clinic. I phoned the Clerk of the Public Petitions Committee yesterday, he said the committee won't be sitting again until September.
It might not be acceptable as petitions are relevant at a National level, not just a personal or local level. Approaches do not always result in a petition being lodged. Sometimes there will be another course of action more appropriate to what is being sought, the committee will advise.
The online petition at the moment, which has 450 signature's to date, was passed to Councillor Donald Kelly who forward it to Jamie McGrigor MSP.
With reference to the story in the Courier 28th of June and regarding the obvious warnings mentioned by Councillor John Semple, regarding this clinic, I of course agree with Councillor Semple's concerns to say the least but to say " his point of view has not been to be completely against a methadone clinic but to listen to both sides ", I personally, do not agree with.
Your either for it or against it, there should be no methadone clinic in Campbeltown. NHS Highland have already had their say and we know what that is, there should be no compromise and some statement's can be taken advantage of if weakness is shown instead of determination. The town has 1 of 2 pharmacies that already provide help for the addicts with methadone, they are open 6 day's a week, if anything, that should remain the same for the town's " minor " problem with heroin which it has "at the moment ", until the source is dealt with, to help stop the spread.
