Two new paving machines unveiled by Argyll and Bute Council

Two new paving machines have been leased by Argyll and Bute Council in a bid to save money as well as provide and increase the capability of our internal delivery team. They will be used to carry out both larger resurfacing projects from the council’s capital roads programme and larger scale revenue patching works.

The two new machines will mean greater flexibility as the council will no longer have to rely on hire plant and will be able to use the machines throughout the year. It also means there will be training opportunities for staff and an improvement in the council’s ability to mend the roads and not just focus on fixing potholes.

Lead Councillor for Environment, Development and Infrastructure, John Semple said, “I have been to see what these machines are capable of at Glen Lonan between Oban and Taynuilt and I firmly believe they will make a big difference to our ability to recover our roads to a more acceptable standard. What’s more the leasing of these machines offers a significantly more efficient option to the cost of hiring the machines potentially saving more than £224,000 over the next 4 years.”
