Pedestrianisation of Cross Street - Thoughts?

Postby Rockape » Wed Aug 19, 2015 9:28 am

Ladies and Gents,

Just looking to gauge people's thoughts/opinions on the possibility of pedestrianizing Cross Street, between its junctions with Main Street and Union Street. As far as I'm aware, there is no proposal so far to do this but, with it being closed for so long anyway, and presumably not particularly missed by motorists, would it not make sense for it to remain off-limits to cars permanently?
Personally, I think that closing the road off to traffic would really benefit the businesses there, and go some way to creating a more pleasant shopping environment in the town centre. As an 'outsider' to the town, I've often wondered what benefit allowing traffic through has anyway, and have been concerned at seeing people wandering from the shops there into the path of cars flying through the narrow street!

Any thoughts and opinions would be gratefully received, thanks.
