Film in Argyll and Bute
Argyll and Bute’s popularity as a filming location is well established – and the council is working alongside residents and partner organisations to ensure that the trend continues.

A number of productions have come to the area so far in 2019, including BBC drama The Nest – starring Martin Compston and Sophie Rundle. Documentaries, adverts and other productions have also filmed in Argyll and Bute in 2019. The area’s stunning landscape continues to attract fashion photoshoots too, with Urban Outfitters recently having visited the area.
The council recently implemented a plan to further enhance the area’s accessibility and appeal as a film location, introducing a Film Location Charging Schedule for filming on council-owned locations. The new charging schedule streamlines the process of providing the film industry a flexible range of options for film productions using council assets.
Additionally, there has also been an increase in the number of members of the public and community groups coming forward to register their property for filming, which enables the council to offer a fantastic range of unique locations for projects.

With recent productions such as Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and big screen movie Then Came You having been filmed in Argyll and Bute, the spotlight is on the area as a desirable location for film crews from around the world.

Councillor Alastair Redman, Policy Lead for Economic Growth, said: “We are working hard to make sure it’s as attractive and as simple as possible for productions to come to Argyll and Bute, and I’m pleased that it remains a popular location. As well as providing a financial boost for our towns and villages when a set is established, it also puts our area’s natural beauty in front of more people’s eyes.”
