Another exciting event to come to Campbeltown will be this exhibition.

The following details were taken from the Argyll & Bute Council web site:-

Argyll and Bute Council Convener, Councillor William Petrie was among a host of dignitaries who gathered yesterday (Thursday 17 February) to launch a major exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

One of the biggest community cultural projects to have been produced in Scotland, the exhibition Their Past Your Future Scotland will tour venues throughout the country, including Campbeltown's Victoria Halls - the only venue in Argyll and Bute.
Councillor Petrie said. "The choice of Clydebank in the launching of this project is both poignant and significant, and Argyll and Bute Council is proud to endorse it and to host the exhibition. Locally, people of all ages will have the opportunity to share experiences in a series of events which will run throughout the coming months, and which will highlight wartime topics such as food, rationing and health during the war. It should prove to be a fascinating experience."

The Council's museums development officer and the library and information service are working to coordinate and organise events in Kintyre to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the war.

In Campbeltown, the museum and library building on Hall Street will be a central point over the coming months for the collection of war time memories, photographs and objects which will be turned into a local exhibition to be added to the main one in the Victoria Hall.

There will be trails around Kintyre and Campbeltown incorporating sites of significance with regards to the Second World War. The Campbeltown Heritage Centre will feature a war-time shop and run workshops for children and adults on topics of food, rations and health during the war.

The exhibition has been developed in partnership with The Big Lottery Fund, the Imperial War Museum and the Scottish Museum Council, and will be on display in Campbeltown from 13 October until 19 November 2005.
