Mull of Kintyre Pipe Band Championships are being held as you said on Saturday 17th May on Kinloch Green this year. A change of venue to bring the event nearer the town centre. The main competition starts at 1pm. A chanter competition is starting at 12 noon ,where entries are being taken on the day on the green.
Other attractions are a Drum Major display involving local band members, Highland Dancing display and after the prize giving, which involves all the entered bands playing en-masse, a parade from Aqualibrium down Hall Street and back.
There will be plenty of catering stalls available to enable people to make a day of it, a licensed bar, craft stalls etc, Army Paintball, Bouncy Castle, Fairground attractions and a Football tournament involving local primary schools playing for the Mull of Kintyre Pipe Band Championships Trophy.
At night there will be a Ceilidh/Dance in the "Vic" with the popular band "Skerrievore" which is licensed until 2.00am. Tickets are available for AP Taylors, Chocolate Box and Jim Martin Supplies - £12.50.
All in all it looks as though it will be a great day and we are now keeping our fingers crossed for the sun to shine and the wind to stay away.
There are still some places left if you wish to have a stall on the day. For more information call 01586 820247

Well done to Kintyre Schools! Juvenille came 2nd in grade 2 and grade 3 and Novice came 2nd in grade 4. A good result. Good luck to them next week in the scottish championships next week.

I well done the youngsters.
Did the weather clear up? Wet in Carradale this morning when I was leaving for Glasgow, was looking forward going down to the event, but other commitments made that impossible.

No it was cold and windy but at least the rain stayed off. It was a bit disappointing that some of the bands never turned up. This was a good practice for Kintyre Schools before their trip to the Scottish Championsips in Dumbarton next Saturday. It would have made all the difference if the sun had been shining!

I thought Skerryvore were excellent at the Dance in the Vic. A group of very talented musicians. It was just a pity they did not have a bigger audience although maybe understandable given the number of high profile events happening in the town over the next few weeks as people have to pick and choose which ones they can attend.

Although the weather was against us the event was a success with a great ceilidh at night. Could have been better supported but everyone there had a good time. The dance floor was filled all night. Skerryvore could not have been nicer and their music was fantastic. We hope to get them back next year!
The postcards created to promote the Championships sold really well and anyone still wanting to get some, they are available at Intersport.
