Sir Cliff Richard To Record 'Famine Song' For Charity
Sir Cliff Richard says he will record the popular football chant 'The Famine Song' for charity - with all proceeds going to Help The Aged - a charity close to Sir Cliff's heart, liver and kidneys - in fact all of him.
Cliff, 87, says he first heard the melodic chant during a Rangers v Celtic match - and was inspired to record the tune after seeing how well it was received by both sets of fans - known locally as 'Scottish'.
The song refers to the famine which killed an estimated one million people in the 1840s and set in motion the mass migration of Irish people.
The song includes the line: "The famine's over, why don't you go home".
"I heard the Old Business singing it - it really brought the two sets of supporters together and made me realize that it was a song about love and erm, potatoes?" said Sir Cliff .
Cliff may use the song on his new album 'Who Are You?' - along with other favorites such 'You're going to get your fu@*ing head kicked in', 'Who ate all the pies?' and the immortal classic 'You what, you what, you what, you what, you what?'
