We got an email on Wednesday to say parcel has been dispatched!! Waiting patiently now....!!
Never seen Ryan Bingham before ......yip, not bad :D
He has a very similar sound!! Have you been to the concert and how was it? :D

Birthday was at the weekend Ags, a few made the treacherous trip to the party. My reunion was earlier in the year, although I did most of my socialising with the class of '83 (no-one in my year liked me  )

Sadly nothing arrived for the big birthday :( maybe Santa will be delivering it :D

Anyway, the main reason for this post was ........ did anyone see the program on BBC last night re Darkness on the Edge of Town? It was very interesting, I didn't realise all the shenanigans that went on around the making of the album (in my defence, I was only 7  )

Is the film on the box set?

Here's the link for iPlayer, for anyone who hasn't seen it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... Revisited/

It shows him to be incredibly focussed / obsessive / creative / principled / clever / stubborn - Compelling viewing.

Finally, Ryan Bingham was fantastic

Very well spotted LR, however I'm pretty sure that song was written by a certain Mr B Springsteen :-? features most of the E Street Band and if memory serves me correctly Springsteen actually produced most of the Dedication album.

Springsteen is a huge Gary US Bonds fan!

Actually part of the documentary mentioned above is about people commenting that while writing songs for the Darkness album he regularly 'gave away' the songs everyone knew were going to be hits i.e. Fire to the Pointer Sisters and Because The Night to Patti Smith. He thought they would interfere with the feel of the album.

Sorry Sheik I seem to have missed your earlier posts on here, and that was before the festivities  . The programme was really good re Darkness though I hate to admit we havent yet had time to watch the dvd. The cd is on in the car quite a lot and for stuff written more than 30 years ago there are some good tunes. Hope you had a great month of partying :D

Very sad news from the Springsteen camp this morning :(

It is with overwhelming sadness that we inform our friends and fans that at 7:00 tonight, Saturday, June 18, our beloved friend and bandmate, Clarence Clemons passed away. The cause was complications from his stroke of last Sunday, June 12th.

Bruce Springsteen said of Clarence: Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.

Very sad news, a great loss to The Boss , the music industry and fans too.
I'm sure the concert at Hampden , July 2009 , will now have even more significance to all of us who were lucky enough to get tickets? The Big Man , even at 67 , gave everything that evening , on TV during the Glastonbury Concert and on the DVD for the London Calling Concert too.

Hear hear Frosty. It was Clemons who provided the soulful blasts that helped define Springsteen's signature sound. I'm playing at the moment 'Jungleland' and listening to the Big Man's unique bluesy sound.

Lady Gaga asked Clemons to play on her latest album and only this week released her video that will likely be considered Clarence's last piece of work. In it, he simply sits on a tenement step and blows that sax the best way he knew how - with stylish, glorious soul.

RIP Big Man and thanks from all of us who share such wonderful memories of watching your towering presence on stage and for your gift of that fabulous, unforgettable, bluesy, soulful groove.

His last work:

Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

Thank you Govangirl , I did hear he played on one of the tracks , but I haven't listened to it until you very kindly posted it above.
It's great to see your return to posting on the forum, I'm only sorry that it is after the loss of a great Musician , of whom we are both great fans. Jungleland is my favourite Springsteen track , Born to Run one of the best ever albums released and Clarence Clemons made a massive contribution to the brilliant music contained in all the tracks realesed by Bruce Springsteen and The E-Street Band.
His pressence and friendship will be soley missed by Bruce , who must be completely distraught at this time.

No Frosty, when things got personal I just decided to take a month's break and my time was up this week!

Yes, Springsteen must be a very sad man today. Do you think the E-Street Band will continue?

Wow - sad news indeed

That only leaves Springsteen and Garry Tallent from the orignal line-up. Danny and Clarence were with him from the start, for nearly 40 years, and now he's lost both of them in the last 3 years. He must be devastated.

With them all being in their 60's, I don't know how much longer they'd continue touring anyway :(

Found this today when I was googling, it was about the first time they met, and I thought it summed-up their relationship nicely:

Clarence Clemons wrote:The first song we did was an early version of "Spirit In The Night". Bruce and I looked at each other and didn't say anything, we just knew. We knew we were the missing links in each other's lives. He was what I'd been searching for. In one way he was just a scrawny little kid. But he was a visionary. He wanted to follow his dream. So from then on I was part of history.

The 60s are the new 40s Sheik. Don't write off the oldies. I have no idea what you look like but I would bet you wouldn't mind a body like Bruce's!!!!!! Don't you worry, he'll be rocking for quite a few years more!!!!!!

It's important to post this one today - especially for 4mins 20secs in, one of the soundtracks of my life and, I suspect, of others on here too.
