Ags, I`ve just started Play Dead, by Harlan Cohen, will let you know if I like it. I`ve just read, back to back, 2 books by a Scottish author I`ve nev er come across before, Alex Gray. The books were Shadows of Sounds, and Glasgow Kiss, both of which I enjoyed, and I`ll be on the lookout for more by her.

In the last couple of weeks I have read Harlan Coben's latest "Caught".This is a stand alone novel, and so much better than his Myron Bolitar series.

Also Karin Slaughter's latest "Broken".This brings Lena Adams,Sarah Linton and Will Trent together. If you have followed the previous in this series then you know what to expect,Lena is in trouble ...........again,and Sarah is doing her best to make sure she doesn't get away with it.

Also James Patterson's latest in the women's club murder club series"9th Judgement".IMO better than the a lot of the previous in this series.

Ags, pleased to say that I`ve really enjoyed Play Dead, surprisingly good for a first book, and carries it`s age well.
I`ve just bought 3 more books by Alex Gray, I`ve quite taken to her writings.

Numberplease, I have only read one of Alex Gray's books but Iain has worked his way through all of them and is currently reading her latest "5 ways to kill a man". I am still persevering with my Peter Temple book but have also just finished "The Neighbour" by Lisa Gardner and am looking forward to working my way through her many titles. I have "Dreams of my father" by Barak Obama to read for book group and am also going to have another go at "Girl with the dragon tattoo". I am trying to keep my other Lisa Gardner books, "The other daughter" and "The perfect Husband" for my holiday in October.

I`m also quite a fan of Lisa Gardner, and am really beginning to like Alex Gray, although II`d never heard of her till the other week. I`ve just started Pretty Little Things, by Jilliane Hoffman, but it`s too soon to give an opinion yet.

I quite liked Glasgow Kiss too (takes you to Kintyre as well!) but it didn't make me want to read any more of her stuff.
As for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Ags, I had to read it for my book group and honestly have wasted all those hours when I could have been watching rubbish TV!!!!! It was the most complete dross I have ever read - cliched, totally predictable, boring, gratuitously sexual violent, misogynistic and with the most prosaic chunks of dialogue I've ever encountered. I didn't care for the characters at all, particularly him that gave a single thought in the entire book to his child and spent the whole journey bedding these otherwise intelligent and capable women who fell at his feet.
The constant detailing of laptop specs and rooms and buildings - and thousands of coffee shops - what was all that about!!!
I think I just fell for the hype!!!!

"Dead of Winter" by P.J.Parish is set in the quiet town of Loon Lake in the snowy wilderness of Michigan. It doesn't stay quiet for long though as the town police force becomes the target of a killer out for revenge.

"Afraid" is the first novel from Jack Kilborn, and is a relentless bloodbath. The innocent town of Safe Haven in Wisconsin becomes the target of an elite team of U.S.military killers. It doesn't take long for the body count to multiply as the residents are killed in the search for one man.

I`m quite a fan of books by P.J.Parrish, I think they are mother and daughter? I`m just coming towards the end of Pretty Little Things by Jilliane Hoffman, it`s not half bad, a tale od child abduction and gruesome murder.

You`re dead right Bill, I was thinking of P J Tracy, but I got confused (easy at my age!) because I`ve read books by P J Parrish as well!! I`ve just started Fear the Worst, by Linwood Barclay, hoping it`ll be as good as the others, despite having read a couple of rather negative reviews.

I've just finished the latest Kate Atkinson, "Started Early, Took my Dog". The jacket blurb says of the main character, security chief Tracy Waterhouse, that she is having a normal day "until she makes a purchase she hadn't bargained for. One moment of madness is all it takes for Tracy's humdrum world to be turned upside down." Well, it was mad all right. A lot of fiction and most drama is based on the "willing suspension of disbelief". Unfortunately, the "purchase" in question stretches the reader's willingness a bit too far. As with other of her more recent books, there are several plot lines and quite a few well-drawn characters and, as ever, they all inter-connect and dovetail neatly by the end of the story. However, I couldn't help feeling it was all a bit too obviously contrived. I enjoyed it well enough for all that, largely thanks to the quality of the writing, but I did feel Ms Atkinson pushed her luck to the limit with this one.

On to the new C J Sansom, "Heartstone", the fifth in the Matthew Shardlake series, which arrived yesterday. Only got as far as page 55 before sleep overtook me last night, but already it looks like being a corker!

WC1, are you reading Heartstone in hard or paperback? I`m dying to get my hands on it, but have been waiting for it to go to paperback. I`ve loved every one of the Mathew Shardlake stories.
