Finally got round to watching the documentary on Rod Stewart, and very enjoyable it was too. Some great footage from his teenage Beatnik days, followed by his Mod period. His Long John Baldry association,Jeff Beck group period, and on to The Faces before the inevitable solo career.
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

I love Rod, he's a legend. The bits with him and Ronnie Wood were classic! I had seen all the films of him that were shown except the 60s pre-famous period as a young man. That was really eye-opening. There he was setting out to hear Bertrand Russell in London somewhere, it was fascinating. Wonder what the later Rod who sold out on his music for a long period would have thought about that young guy? I think he is getting back to more credible music now and I loved the track about Brighton Beach and his daughter - very moving.

Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

I enjoyed that programme, very interesting. I’ve always thought Truth was his finest hour as well as being the greatest Led Zep album that wasn’t.
He comes across as a man that is very content, not just with his lot, but with himself, and that is always nice to see.
As for his latest album, I love it. I think it’s the best thing he’s done in a long, long time.
Ouch !

I must admit that I really didn`t like Rod Stewart at all in his(and my) younger days, but now that he`s started singing "proper" songs, I like him a lot.

It's always irked me that he threw away one of the greatest ever blues voices to record mediocre pop songs. In between Truth and his latest album, with the exception of a few Faces tracks, he has made a mockery of his talent.
As for what he did to the Sutherland Brothers Sailing, well, that is one of the biggest crimes in music history.

I never realised that Rod had feelings for Ron. It's quite shocked me, but at around 2.28 into this vid Rod gives Ron a look that is as old as time, he's not singing to the audience, he's singing to Ron.

Ouch !
