Never really been a fan, but am willing to investigate. What songs, other than the famous ones, would be recommended?

Yippee, I love posts like this!
My favourites are 'Visions of Johanna' from Blonde on Blonde, 'Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues' and 'Desolation Row' from Highway 61 Revisited, (of course this also has one of my top 5 songs in the world ever list: 'Like a Rolling Stone' which Rolling Stone Magazine rated No. 1 on its list of the top 500 songs of all time), Tangled Up In Blue' (which I quoted from this week on the forum)and 'Simple Twist of Fate' from Blood on the Tracks, 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' from Bringing it All Back Home. You should also hear the powerful and scathing 'Positively 4th Street' - originally recorded by Dylan just four days after he enraged folk music loyalists by playing an electric guitar at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

I would start off with the Highway 61 Revisited album and get hooked that way. Let us know how you get on :D

Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

I'd have listed all of those but thought they were all too famous, but then I think Jokerman should be up there with the
moon landings, the Mona lisa and Hamlet...how about Mozambique...Rainy day women...Love minus zero..Tangled up in blue...All along the watchtower...I am a teenage prayer..Plane crash at Los Gatos Canyon (Guthrie cover)...Yea heavy and a bottle of bread..Down in the flood...

Wow! How long is a piece of string? Don't disagree with any of the earlier suggestions but would like to chuck the following into the mix: Sara -from Desire; Senor (Tales of Yankee Power) - from Street Legal; Blind Willie McTell (not sure what this is on?); Lily,Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts - from Blood on the Tracks; Clothes Line Saga or Apple Suckling Tree*- from The Basement Tapes); Nettie Moore (from Modern Times)

* Well, they both always make me smile!

Subterranean Homesick Blues, Masters Of War, Like A Rolling Stone, Blowin' In The Wind, Positively 4th Street, Lay Lady Lay, The Times They Are A-Changing, just the ones you hear all the time, but I was just wanting some opinions on some of the more obscure songs. This list will do nicely, thanks very much.

PS Theyre the ones I know so theyre the famous ones to me. As I say I just wanted some of the more obscure names.
The term famous is all relative anyway.

Mighty Quinn/Just Like a Woman/If You got to go/With God on our Side......the first three all chart top 10hits for Manfred Mann, the fourth was on a successful chart EP.

Mr.Tambourine Man/All I Really want to Do....both massive hits for The Byrds.

Mama You've been on my Mind/Do'nt Think Twice It's Allright/It Ai'nt Me Babe/Girl From the North Country/Boots of Spanish Leather...all covered by Johnny Cash.

In my humble opinion all the above were better than the original versions by Dylan.
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song
