That is beautiful.
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

First time we went to see Christy in concert some one kept shouting for him to sing this song. After a wee while Christy was obviously getting a bit p'd off,so when once again came the shout for "Ride On" Christy replied, "When you have had only the one hit you keep it to the end".....end of interuptions. :)
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

One of my favourite Christy Moore songs is "They never came home". This certainly sends a shiver down the spine, for no doubt it could happen again.

Written by Christy about the 48 young people killed in the Stardust Disco fire in Dublin 1981.

Eric's song about leaving his Mother at Waverley Station,as he was starting his long journey to a new life in Australia in 1969 is a very personal and moving song.As his mother's tears started to fall his father, who was a hard Scotsman, told her to pull herself together. No comfort there.

I also find his song about a young black man being led to his execution, as his fellow prisoners sing his spirit home, very moving.

Nice, but it put me in mind of this for some reason:

Should Scotland be an Independent country?

Yes, I believe Scotland is a country and should therefore govern itself.
No, Scotland is not a country it is simply part of the UK and should therefore be governed from London.

Love this, especially bit when big Pavarotti comes in:

Live in Milan is not half bad either without him.

Sam Stone
©John Prine

Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.

Chorus:
There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And Sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

Repeat Chorus:

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost its fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the G. I. Bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill.

Repeat Chorus
Ouch !
