Dynamic HTML effects using Firefox...

Postby Ship called Dignity » Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:18 pm

Does anyone know if there are issues using DHTML on web pages that are browsed using Firefox?

Was adding some to a website I am doing and they are okay on IE but not Firefox

Checked http://www.machgolf.com and there are ones across the top (drop down menus) which are okay on IE but not Firefox.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers

Depends how these things are written.
Just had a quick look Davie and I see the menu is courtesy of Dynamic Drive. They have a forum you could ask on.

You also have more than one script there. Some of these scripts clash with each other and then none of them work. Have you tried them individually?

I'm just going to do a spot of welding now (I shouldn't drive tractors and loaders into walls!), but I'll have a proper look at it later.

Malky,

I'll PM you later - it isn't the Machrihanish Golf Club one but that is an example of one that uses it.

I'll send you details of the one I plan to use these on.

Have been doing this site for a while (for friends) now and want to get it LIVE but just when I was about too I tried it on FIREFOX on it didn't work.

Mind you I tried the DHTML as a copy and paste a while back so it could, as you say, just be a clash of scripts.

Cheers

Given the increasing number of people using Firefox (and Opera now) it's best to check as you develop that all browsers work properly with a website.

Hear from you later.

I wondered whether it might be a security thing with Firefox as this has stronger protection by default, but I suspect it's 'just one of those things' now.

There are significant differences betwixt IE and Netscape with regards to the way screen co-ordinates are referenced and I'm now wondering whether the same might be true of FireFox.

Definitely worth contacting the suppliers of the menu objects.

Cheers

Sorry Malky - not much time between various things (and feeds!) these days!

Anyway, I know what I have done wrong (I think!)

I'll catch you soon as I need someone to look at it.

In fact it made me realise that the drop down list on the index page of the .info site doesn't work in Firefox!

But I'll sort that later - I've got thank you letters to finish off!

The dropdown menu hereworks in Firefox and Opera as well as IE. Should just be a case of swapping out.

HTH. :)

It's a bit like the Carradale thread then - we know what we're talking about but no-one else does

We are of course on about cross browser compatability

TBH I always thought the wipe effects etc were a bit much and did not add anything to the site as a whole.
It looks and works better under Firefox without the dhtml.

just MHO of course
