Help! Local knowledge required

Postby mikevg » Sat Feb 13, 2010 1:46 pm

We are planning to visit Kintyre in May and are really looking forward to it with keen anticipation. However, in true Boy Scout fashion, I'm doing my best to be prepared, and wonder if someone could help me with some local knowledge. To kick off, I'd really appreciate answers or guidance with relation to the following:

1) Are any/all of the supermarkets in Campbeltown open on Sunday?
2) Can someone direct me to a local small pet veterinary. Just to keep in reserve, but we will be bringing our dog with us.
3) We would like to buy local products wherever possible. Is there a source locally for goats' milk or other dairy products? Can anyone recommend a local and/or organic butcher/grocer/fishmonger?
4) Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of local eateries in the Mull or Campbeltown areas at all levels? For example, a good pub for grub, or a restaurant for 'special occasion' eating out, or a specialist seafood place?

I'm sure this information won't only be of value to me - hopefully it will help other tourists as well as the local businesses concerned.

Thanks in anticipation

1) Both the Co-op and Tesco supermarkets are open on a Sunday.

2) The is a vet at 89-91 Longrow. Telephone is 01586 552136.

3) Try the Inverloch Cheese Company. Also, there's a Farmers Market the 1st Saturday of every month in Campbeltown from 10am till 2pm.

4) There's an eating out thread in this forum that should help.
