The Shed

Postby Sanyanya » Sat Feb 24, 2007 1:16 am

Morenish old chap, I hate to disappoint you, but as you have now realised, I have escaped from the shed. In my opinion it was too damn cold for man, never mind beast to endure for anymore than a few hours. Besides there was very little in the way of recreational space never mind room to whip a cat with all those root vegetables and briquettes that you've had me compressing for your stove. Even if you had shifted the outhouse a little nearer to your flue, I doubt that it would have been much more bearable. I was able to line one leg of your old jeans with the opposite leg and this doubled up very nicely as a sleeping bag with plenty of room to spare.

Were my powers of observence playing tricks on me? I could have sworn that I saw you delivering newspapers around the houses in Tormhor? I expect that you're earning a little extra cash for your top pocket for Saturday night.

Talking of top pockets, I assume that you'll be aiming to drop the black neatly into there on Saturday, but you'll need to get past the Bochan, who's been brushing up on his strokes of late. I must admit that I am missing the homely cooking of Mrs Morenish, but that leaves all the more for you I suppose. I may be forced to see if JD C can recommend me for a commission aboard that Gin Palace that he is plying the length and breadth of Loch Fyne aboard. The position of ship's cat would suit me fine, although I'm not too sure about working with the fish, as I think I seem to be allergic to handling live seafood.

However, turnip thinning seems to be a thing of the past and there's not a tattie to be howked at this time of year. Having been unable to claim my benefits during the last few months, I have been dropped from the system and god knows when I will manage back onto the roundabout. I don't think that my back is up to bending to the bucket these days. Despite the price of whelks, the opportunity cost to my good self is considerably beyond redemption!

anyway i dont need you the now, as you say, there is not much doing on the croft just now,and anyway the new £30k telehandler will do the job of 10 men so that means i can get to sit at the fire for longer myself, and thats where i'll be on saturday night reading loudly from the bible to try and help the ungodly folk in the dale, bochans excepted, they are beyond help.

oh and you snoddy as you are a man of science and only believe in paracetamol.

I couldn't help but notice that JD & the bay raker are trying to pass off blurred photos of salmon ova as close ups of the moon. Jeest as well the likes of you and me get up early in the morning and won't be taken in by any of that nonsense. At this rate, all that they'll have left to capture will be themselves.

That's naw a salmon ova, or anything like it!

The last time I saw something like this, it was hauled from the furthest extremities of a press in the port shouder of the Amy Harris's focsle, and when the Bochan climbed in wae a torch and a mirror and looked at the lettering that had been transferred from the packet to the condensation riddled gloss paint, it read 'Butter Puffs!'

Aye that's what I said, Butter Puffs. If old Doddles had known that the crew of the Amy Harris were relying on packaged biscuits instead of his orgainc, jaw-breaking water biscuits, there would have been a row. I expect they bought them in Ayr or one of those places, beacuase if they'd bought them in Tarbert, it would still have reached the A team at the back of the shop in Airds.

Aye, every boat carried the water biscuits, but nobody every ate them. I heard that there was a man from Grogport right enough, without a tooth in his head, and he could break them wae his bare gums. They tasted great with butter, but you ran the risk of loosing all your incisors and canines in one foul swoop.

There was a groundswell in demand in the late 70s, but production stopped overnight when the bakers discovered that they were being used as a cheap substitute for clay pigeons. That's how the young fermer at the bridge did so well at the shooting. These were far from finely machined frisbys. If you could crack hitting these things on a regular basis then you had to be good. There was never so many pheasants on the ground as there was in these days. Once the biscuits soaked for a week in the rain, they were easily swallowed by all the game birds in the village (No suggestions of names please!).

Anyway, I'm going off the topic here a bit. What was it again? Oh Aye, Carradale!

Postby Right Pongal » Sun Mar 18, 2007 5:42 pm

Snow be god, all I can see is tumbleweeds. Where the heck has everyone gone? No Bochan, No Morenish, Snoddy, Sanyanya or JD. I was going to say that they must all be working or performing in Oban, but......... no, I'll naw even go there.

I thought you'd be back over in the Glen again this Sunday watching the football. Mind you, wae weather like this you'd be as well at home.

 Grants for the arts are for individuals, arts organisations and other people who use the arts in their work. They are for activities that benefit people in England or that help artists and arts organisations from England to carry out their work.

It was only tongue-in-cheek, JD. You're virtually a community service, you know!

Arts Council grants only for England? So what about the Scottish Arts Council ?

And speaking of the arts, well done to Carradale Drama Group for winning the prizes for Best Production and Best Play at the Lorn Drama Festival in Oban on Friday!
