How to kill a thread stone dead!!!! Are you sure you've not been sent here by Muasdale or Southend to Kill off the Carradale thread. Just because we never liked the Co-op van up here in Trumpton!

Don't you listen to him Humphlock, carry on regardless, we're all ears!

As for Morenish, he's gone back to being a Tory now that Mrs Morenish has him gainfully employed drying dishes. I've spotted him and Snoddy sipping Earl Grey and nibbling pancakes over the road, usually around 10.30 am.

Yes folks, he is actually up at that time, scoffed the breakfast back home prior to his pancakes right enough, but up nevertheless!

always knew there must have been a bit of class somewhere in the village at sometime in its past, pity it was only a dream, the thought of all carradale fishermen going straight to hell is quite appealing, and makes sense, doogie coona be trusted with any of thon heavenly maidens "nigh, yir a braw lookin lassie" i've a picture in my heid of him with the hair all brylcreamed, and the gammy leg, a glass of whisky in one hand, a benson and hedges gold in the other, naw, it would only end in his younger brother gie'n him a clout roon the ear.

you think mebbe they're keepin a berth for me doon there, the other place sounds like too much hard work?

The End is Nigh!

Postby Bochan Mor » Tue Feb 05, 2008 3:22 pm

I think we'll find that we have only scraped the lichen from the surface of this Humphlock's knowledge and that many more gems could follow, given time and encouragement!

Besides, this was only one of a few of Wal's poems...

Keep it coming wee Humphlock, put the pump on Chuckie Bay!

Wal - some background

Postby chuckiebay » Tue Feb 05, 2008 4:39 pm

Wal famous for his corner and now his poem was one of Carradale's eccentrics and often wil' andcross. In the days when the bread came hot from the bakers ovens at 2 o'clock and was placed on a high shelf beyond the reach of most customers there was always a queue waiting to be served by Effie and Maisie. One day Wal came marching in, up to the head of the queue reached up for his loaf at which point a wee wifie had the temerity to say "Wal would you get one down for me." His reply was "Can you not see there's a queue and what do you think these womem are paid for?" and off he marched leaving a silent shop and one mortified relation.

Cuach was asking about accumulators. Well Wal and his brother built a windmill on the wee hill behind Bayview which they used to give a little light and he would also charge accumulators in what he called The Power House which was one of his outhouses.

Surely there are more Wal stories out there and I hope to read some soon.

A' dhuinne, dhuinne, I hope I dinna offend any o yiz wi Wal's verses when they got kinna controversial towards the end.

And damn me if I dinna allow a wee typo to creep in - ma erms were gettin kinna tired by then. It should, of course, have read:

"At the sound of Gabriel's trumpet, we shall welcome you above
Where we have NO party politics, and all is peace and love."

Ach, ah'm hellish spited aboot that (humphlocks are wild perfectionists).

Thanks for yer encouragin words, Bochan. Nobody know who the third pilgrim wiz yit? Come on, Pongal!

Enjoyed yer wee story, Chuckiebay, aye, that wiz jist Wal. It's comical that you should mention his windmill - I wis stidying on it when the village wis plunged into darkness the other deh. Aye, allow you Wal, he wizna daft.

There's more where that poem came from but maybe we should gie Wal a wee break for a while?

Pongol ah think you're up the wrong track. It's more a sixties track and the character was a bit peppery in nature.

He said the worst rowlin he ever had wiz a ship he was on coming from India through the Rid Sea. It was fill o elephants and they wir penned in thwart-ship, and they all sterted swayin divilish and the boat wiz dippin the wings o her bridge. Och och.

I think I haive a snap o him somewhere. I'll need to sign up for a Phota Bucket or something before I can pit photas on here. Is that right boys? (and lassies).

Photo Bucket

Postby Right Pongal » Wed Feb 06, 2008 11:09 pm

Aye Humphlock, you'll need to get yourself a 'Wee Bucket' for your photos, but for our sakes, it will be well worth it. Did you see Morenish has a new chimney pot on his stack. I think he's had it especially tilted to the North West to turbo charge that furnace that keeps his toes warm. As they say, its set in stone, so it will be there for another 50 years.

That was a splendid tale with the elephants. Your arrival on here has certainly rejuvenated this thread with almost record viewing figures from the intrigued audience, keep up the good work! Some more quotes from Tom from Jackman would be splendid. When you think of the legendry figures lying up in Brackley!

Is that him at the shark factory? It's a pity that you didn't save it a little bit bigger!

A hell of a pipe in his mouth!

I can confirm that Morenish's lum is reaking again!
