cheerio my bonny lads, i'll miss the stories and the poems, a haven from the keich of the young rascals hiding behind their mammy's apron strings, the daltons are off on the warpath, see and be good now and if i find uncle dennis's booklet i'll pass it on to someone who can share it, i won't be back, the world outside this thread i've grown weary of, if you see the mods walkin funny it'll be cos they've did what i asked with their forum

Lobby

Dear Jerry,

So sorry to hear that you are still Single. Never mind, the news is not all bad. I am writing to assure you that the parquet flooring has been restored to its original PJS condition.

Not withstanding this, the new owners have found that it is indeed possible to keep the urinals clean in the gents and the glasses are also cleaned with a different cloth and after every use. I have it on good authority that the antibiotic consumption has also dramatically decreased now that the hot water, soap and towels have been reinstated in the kitchen.

There has actually been an upsurge in support for 'The Glen' which is now a smoke free zone. A bunch of youths from Campbeltown have even recently recorded a music disk extolling it's virtues! They sing about going over mountains and moorlands to get there, so I am not quite sure where they started out from, but possibly South Dippen.

Oh to be back in Woodbine cottage!
Dr Snod Esq.

Two spoonfulls of Halibut-Liver Oil, Morning & Evening. You know the surgery hours, so don't bother me at any other time. I most certainly don't get paid enough.

Any resemblance to Snoddy's past and present are purely coincidental!

Ah haive heard this one long ago, chuckiebay, but ah canna mind any more detail than you haive. And ah haina any information aboot the McDougalls except that I believe they came to Portrigh from Sooth Dippen. They flitted in a punt.

Dinna know aboot Dunks's vision of the sodjers though, cuach.

The only other story ah've heard aboot second sight concerned the Mitchells that stayed in Balliemenach Hoose (Dan wis in the phota o the footballers). They always anchored their skiff, the Teresa, off the Coul, and they would go doon through the field to the boat. This time there were going doon through the plots and they saw a wild bright light up in the shore hills or somewhere and they dinna laik it, and so they decided they winna go oot. They jeest went away home. If I mind right, that was the night the Mairi wis loast.

Now then,Chuckiebay ! Am jalousin ye think a'm a bit o' a gomerel an winna realise that calling me "Arsid" isna far the crude name for ma "nether regions " Whit a cheek !!! Ah sussed it oot right away
I dough'nt know if you wid fit in coming up tae Airds Wid fur the Winter, as the folk in the wid are kinda pongle Were ye planning to get McLeod tae build ye a wee but an'ben, or wis it something grander ye had in mind ?
Ah hear ye gie yir address at Chuckiebay as the "Shooting Lodge" when Ah know fur a fact you are really living in cramped conditions in yon shootin shed. Am tempted tae send ye up a tarpaulin fur the roof------ its bound tae be leakin.

Macdougall flittin

Postby SARID » Sun Mar 02, 2008 7:35 pm

The punt used fir the flittin must have had tae make a wheen o' trips from South Dippen
tae purtree Apart from the bits o' furniture an pots an pans, there were 14 o' a family. Mind you two or three might haav died, as the mortality rate wis quite high in them days.

Macdougals/ Mc Dougals

Postby chuckiebay » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:03 pm

I haive it on good athority that thae came doon from Culendrach at Skipness ti South Dippen. Matthew found a bride in Mary McKinlay and efter haing a doze o weans they flitted tae at the croft at Portrigh. They must huv been doing well at the boat building and croftin for they had a flushing toilet in the croft. The weans grew up, some left for foreign pairts but some remained to mairy onto other local faimlies. Charlie merrid Lizzie Tosh, Duncan merrid Maggie Paterson and Bessie merrid ? Galbraith. They had the 3 hooses next tae the croft. Rob merrid Chrissie Campbell and replaced the croft wi Dunvalanree.

Others moved further up the village and Kate merrid Walter Paterson(Bayview) Aggie her twin merrid ?Tosh
and lived in the row where Mr RC Brownie (grandson) now resides. Kirsty merrid ?Cook and had the PO in Ashbank before she emigrated to S Africa in the twinties.

Alastair the youngest merrid Katie McKinven and they had the Hotel. Neil merrid Mary Galbraith and they had Duncrannaig boarding hoose.

Ah hope ah havnae missed oot a Carradale wan and maybe sumbdy else knows aboot the wans that went away.

So as ye can see from the above juist aboot evrybudy in the original families wis connected tae a McDougal

Aye boys great stuff and we would all the none the wiser of it if it wasn't for this thread.

................but there's grave news in the dale right enough. Never thought I would see the day that a postman was expected to deliver a coffin to a well respected resident who is fit and healthy and a credit to our community.

Shame on whoever done the deed. I did hear the craftsmanship was excellent mind you but you would need to be of small stature to hop in.

I just hope it's not a harbinger of things to come on this site as a whole. Wile dissention and things look bleak as the mods struggle to keep things on track.

Aye there's trouble everywhere my freens. Ochone ochone

Gosh sef's I canna keep up wi yeez the naow. chuckiebay's got some knowledge of the M(a)cDougal(l) genealogy! Ah can only add that Dunnis's faither's first name wiz Donald and it wiz John (Dodge) Galbraith that Bessie merried.

Ah've been busy writin ma own poem the day (on a Sunday too - no good'll come o't!). Ah'm tryin tae rise tae ma own challenge to come up wae a poem in the local lingo. Ah'll maybe subject yeez to it wan deh when there's no much doin on here. It's all aboot whit happened to the Torrisdale toads the time they came over the road to see the puddocks dancing. Ah've got kinna cerried away so it's going to be a long yin. They've no even sighted the puddocks yit and ah'm on to the sixteenth verse. Wal wid be prood o me.
On second thoughts, no he winna.

But listen, ah'm the fright o' ma life that sumdy'll report us for too much dwellin in the past and clannish bletherin on oor thread. i hope we're no pittin younger folks off (or are they all bebo-ing and facebooking instead?). Should some o us maybe be doin the dacent thing and startin a new yin all aboot old Carradale yarns and poems and that? Ah'm no jeest yolach wae the etiquette o these things and ah winna laik tae be the cause o us all gettin a row or anything. Ach, but we're hermless, eh?

Night night.

Not only that bubbly, but some well kent faces in the villages were allegedly taking pot shots at the local constable on Saturday. He was last seen diving for cover and reloading his own gun!!!

It used to only be gamekeeper that would be shooting at the people when I was a boy, but never at the polis man!!
Strip the Willow was a trade long before the devil turned it into a dance!
