I'm sure there will be insects stuck to the car but he concentrates on certain areas for so long that any insects that were there are long gone. I went out this morning to see if he was about and he does not appear to have noticed that my car is only round the corner. He did, though, spend a lot of time on top of my red wheelie bin. He was still on the kitchen window sill at 9 pm which is three and a half hours after I got home. Regardless of reflection and territorial theories, this is bizarre behaviour for any oystercatcher!

Was rudely awakened at 5am today by that bird! So I got up and moved the car into next door's driveway. However, before I was back in my bed the bird was in next door's driveway having a go at my car. So got up yet again and parked it in a driveway on the other side of the house and all this before 6 o'clock this morning. I'm definitely going to try and catch it and get the number off the ring on its leg. You never know, it might have previous!

Having searched through the threads I am unable to find the one to which you refer.Would appreciate if you could put me right.

Final update! After just over three weeks of being under attack from the oystercatcher, we have now been left in peace for just over two weeks. I'm assuming that the time he was annoying us, his other half would have been sitting on the eggs. After three weeks they would have hatched and our bird decided to take his fatherly duties very seriously and we haven't seen him since. We do hear them most days in the field behind the house but as far as I know he hasn't been back in the garden - or my neighbour's garden, or the driveway of the taxi company across the road where he was last seen having a great time, hopping from taxi to taxi and have a few pecks on the way. It was very strange behaviour and we'll wait and see if he comes back next year...
