Always wondered how many other Campbeltown's there are around the world :?:

I knew about the Australian version, and I think there's one up north somewhere :?

Is there a link between the Canadian and Australian places and the "real" version?

is there not a campbeltown in New Zealand?
distant memory of some sort of town twinning, could have been a dream.
can find an area named CN on the south island of NZ but cant get in tothe map far enough to see if there is a town there.

Jist for IAIN --- extract frae the history o Ardersier

"The fisher-folk of Blacktown had to resettle about a mile away on the shores of the Moray Firth. Here was founded two different communities, separated by land ownership and religion. The narrow strip of land on which Stewart-town was built belonged to the Earl of Moray and fell within the parish of Petty. Literally, across the road, the householders of Campbell-town worshipped in the church of Ardersier. Collectively these two settlements were later referred to as Ardersier, but it was not officially known as such until the late seventies, thus preventing confusion on postal deliveries to the other Campbellton which lies many miles away in the county of Argyll."

Guys

There is a Campbelltown in Tasmania, I visited it in 1990, the same day I also passed through the town of Bagdad much to the dismay of my mother as it was during the Gulf War, when I called she obviously though of the other Bagdad that was just a bit more dangerous around then, I have a couple of pictures somewhere.

The Campbelltown near Inverness is now called Arsersier where they used to build Oil Platforms.

Hope this information helps

TI.

The city of Fayetteville in North Carolina was originally called Campbeltown, and was apparently founded by people from Campbeltown, Argyll. It was renamed after the American Revolution when it was unified with Cross Creek.

There is also a Campbelton in Jamaica (near Glasgow, Jamaica) and Facebook suggests there is a Campbeltown in Tobago, although I can find no further evidence whether that is actually the case or not.
