Ants

Anyone got any weird and wonderfull ideas, on how to get rid of the little ********, they are nesting outside the back door somewhere and keep attacking the cupboards and work tops. We're fed up cleaning up and disinfecting were they have been and cant find out how they are getting in to the Kitchen?

Ants HATE Johnsons baby powder It seriously repels them.
put it in any or all cracks they crawl in on. Put it on yourselves. they won't go near it.

This worked for me.................

Possibly a food source such as spilt honey or sugar in a cupboard may attract them. This was the case in my Mother's house some years ago and a careful clean stopped them coming in.

Aye, i'm germaphobic and understand that the scouts leave a theramone trail, but no amount of cleaning seems to work. I will give the baby powder a try, but please keep ideas coming. Thanx

We used to find the source and pour boiling water down the cracks or hole they came out of. A neighbour used to pour bleach in first and then boiling water on top of it.

Sorry.

Try pouring distilled vinegar [white] around the areas inside and out, or other option, keep them out of kitchen by drawing a barrier with one of the pen-type insecticides e.g. Vapona Insectipen or similar.

Ours came in from outside and it was very difficult to pinpoint where they were coming from, but we used ant stations from Wilkinsons, other places may sell them, I don`t know, but they worked a treat. Before we had them from late February till around May time, trying all sorts, but after buying these, a good few years ago, we had no more, till a couple of years ago, we had a few in the house, but put another ant station down, and none since.

Ants aren't harmful to human in this country.

Here are some tips:

Clean the kitchen - clean any spills and make sure that potential foodstuffs are stored in sealed containers. They love sweet things.

They don't like salt or talc. Spread a line of either beside doors and windows to deter them.

They're not keen on vinegar, peppermint oil, cinnamon, black pepper, cayenne pepper, clove and bay leaves. You could put some sprigs of bay in your cupboards.

I'm in agreement with numberplease, last year and this year I bought the wee ant stations and haven't seen any in the house at all. A friend recommended them to me and they work. ... well I think they do!

I'm sorry but I just can't get rid of the image of loads of ants on a station platform, waiting for a train with their little bowler hats and briefcases.

I admit Martin, it is rather a strange name for them, but that`s what they`re called. Aw, all those poor little ants waiting needlessly at the station

Hi, I get them every year strolling into my house and I cannot recommend enough the spray that B&Q do. It's their own brand - 'Ant and insect replellent'. I dont know what is in it, but spray it around the areas where the ants are and they just disappear altogether after a couple of hours. Brilliant stuff, better than anything else I've used.

Do they stay away when they go Chris, or come back in a few days? If they stay away, I`ll get some of that stuff.
