Whether it's the US Civil Rights movement, ant-apartheid in South Africa or Paul Stephenson who, echoing Rosa Parks, lead the campaign against the Bristol Bus Company because of their bar on employing Blacks and Asians, life today is better because people did speak out.

I raise a glass to all the people who were offended that so pubs used to have signs reading 'No Blacks. No Irish' and decided not to look away. Good on them for 'spoiling it for everyone else''.

The mum in question, who is black, was visiting the school with a view to sending her son there, felt it was an inappropriate image for a primary school assembly hall.

The police were called by journalists asking them how they responded to hate crimes. The journos got a standard response from the police. This response was then shoe-horned into the story.

The result of all this? The mural remains. The police are not investigating any further. And the 'it's political correctness gone mad' brigade can clean the froth and spittle from their mouths.

No Gilliwogs in Alice, but surely that is discrimination? I was under the impression that everything these days should have a "token coloured".
"The mum in question, who is black" should maybe get a sense of humour and educate herself on our history. The mural was of it's time and there was no need for such a song and dance to be made of it.
It wasn't just pubs that had the "No Blacks. No Irish" signs, it was lodging houses, flats, bedsits, the whole lot. I have to say that back in 1978/79 when I was sometimes employed to evict some of those tenants from places that did allow them, the landlords were quite justified in using those signs.
Thankfully, things have changed and even I learnt (very slowly) that there are good and bad all over.

Well Pete ,Mohammad was the most popular boy's name in Glasgow last year for the first time. I am sure at some time you will be meeting him.
Though this was the first time for Glasgow, Mohammad has been the most popular name in London for the past four years , with a variety of spellings.
