Topic of the week - Smoking

Postby Admin3 » Tue Jul 26, 2005 12:49 pm

On the 26th March 2006 the law on smoking changes.

The Scottish Parliament has voted to ban smoking in all enclosed public places because of the health risks associated with passive smoking. The new law comes into effect on 26th March 2006 and applies to businesses, workplaces, clubs, pubs and restaurants.

It is the responsibility of the business to make sure their premises and staff meet all the requirements of this new law.

This should be an interesting thread :D

I'm think the new law is a good idea and I'm for it :) :)

I'm perhaps slightly biased as I'm an asthma sufferer and find the smoke (especially in pubs) a real problem. I would definately go to the pub more often if they were smoke free - well I would if the wife would let me

don't get me started..... honestly don't...... I gave up 10 years ago.

I agree with the smoking ban esp in restaurants and pubs where food is served ( and not to annex areas off as non smoking).

Agree 200% with the ban, but I would go further.

Every time a greetin'-faced mumper starts wheengin' and coughing about how it's a disgrace, they should be fined £1,000.

Mump again and it would the jile .

Alternatively they should be sent to either St Kilda or Sanda until their craving has passed and they are fit to take their place once more in society.

Finally, finally, after collecitvely torturing us for years with their unhealthy, unhygienic, stinking, filthy habit their ba's burst and I'm delighted.

Scouder,

Would you ban drinking alcohol too?

Though the ban will be good for non-smokers - do you believe it will affect business in the pubs etc?

Send them to Sanda and wee Dick would have a field day!

It may hurt the pubs but what of those who find it hard going in the pub due to the smokey air? Its disguisting anyway, I mean what enjoyment do people get breathing in and out smoke

I fully agree that smoking is anti social and unhealthy and should be banned, But think on this-

How many windows in the town have been broken by people smoking?
How many fights started by smokers?
How many people assaulted by smokers?
How many smashed bottles and glasses littering the pavement can be atributed to smokers? ?
How many unplanned/unwanted pregnancies can be atributed to smoking?
How much petty crime and vandalism can be atributed to smokers?
How many people have been murdered by smoking drivers?

All of these problems are drink related and they are anti social and unhealthy. How long until we see some "morally superior busybody" campaign to ban alcohol.

Be careful what you wish for, you may not like what you get!

Good God Craig your right.. Hadn't thought of it like that...Think of all the wives(and in some cases husbands, although in these enlightened times I suppose I should say partners) who have been beaten because of the drink... Think of all the people who have to disinfect their closes after the weekend.. Think of the money saved to the NHS if we can cut down on liver disease.. This idea of yours might have legs.. BAN THE DRINK..
