MOD Warning to Southend village

Postby Biggles » Fri Aug 05, 2005 7:06 pm

The MOD has recently purchased the art deco ruin known as the Keil Hotel to the south of Southend village. The building, despite being listed, is to be used as a precision bombing target by RAF Tornado aircraft at 2.30 pm on Friday 19th August. All residents within a radius of 200 metres should evacuate their homes.

As this is a joint excercise with the United States Air Force, at 3.00pm the remains of the building will be precision bombed by USAF F-16's. All residents within a 10 kilometre radius should evacuate their homes    :!: :!: :!:

Hi there.
Is this actually taking place?
I am planning on coming to kintyre at the end of next week, and would love to see this.
I did hear from someone that the USAF F16s were going to be staying at RAF Machrihanish but didnt know if it was true or not. Being a bit of a plane geek id love to see it.

if anyone could help with info that would be great
cheers
Kevin

S. C.

Aye it's right enough and if there's any bombs left over they're headin for the village and if you want tae see one of them Stealth Fighters the Polliwhilline Road Runner's got wan in his hay shed.

Oh naw, noo wait a minute, it might naw be a Stealth Fighter, it could be a Health Rider, Och I'm sure he'll get back and let you know. But personally I think all that running is just a screen for patrolling the perimimiters of the farm. So he could have quite a lot to hide. Beep Beep

I have it on good authority that it is very early (around 5.15am) to deter the usual big crowds we get for this type of event. However there is provision for up to twelve civilian spectators to be there at the landing, up close and personal. Would suggest that you just turn up at the checkpoint about ten minutes early and mention my name. The boys will see you right

If the bombing run is on friday, I am sure that the aircraft will deploy to the base a few days before hand. Give them time to settle in.

As for the civilian spectators you mention, who would I get in touch with regarding that. Being a freelance aviation journalist, the closer the better for me.

you can e-mail me at stealth_chaser@btinternet.com if you wish.

Thanks in advance
Kevin
