It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word form the first word is shake, and the 46th word from the last word is spear.

40 is the only integer whose letters ( in English ) are in alphabetical order.

"Out of sorts" comes from the era of printing when type was set. Each letter was placed in a 'sort' or box to separate the letters for storage. The majuscule letters were placed in the upper case tray, and the miniscule letters were placed in the lower case tray. Thus the common names we use today for upper and lower case letters.
One of the most common mistakes in sorting the letters was between the 'p'and the 'q'. The sorter was constantly reminded to "mind your p's and q's".
