What did they do to annoy the Germans

I believe I read somewhere that the hotel at Bellochantuy was the first building in Scotland damaged by enemy action.. Does anyone know the story behind this..

The village was sprayed with gunfire from what was thought to be a British pilot testing his guns. No one was hurt but the bullets did some light damage to the hotel. Windows were broken. The air minister said that there had been no RAF or enemy planes in the area that day but he did say that it could have been an aircraft from the Fleet Air Arm.
There is a bit about it in the "Campbeltown" book
