I have always been astounded that the English do not have a Shakespeare night as opposed to our Burns Night. They have a Bard that was born and who died on 23rd April: St George's Day! We Scots would celebrate for days if we had that triple!!!!!
Anyway, if it takes a Scot . . . I am having a Shakespeare Supper tomorrow evening to celebrate the genius and beauty of the man's works. It will be hard putting up the Red Cross bunting but it has to be done! Plenty of beer and ox roast (well, beef joint really!) and everyone is looking forward to it.
It's not really a battle of the bards because there's room for two great writers.
Anyway, my question is this: will it catch on?

An interesting thought GG and Dumfries would be the ideal location for such a joint celebration. The Shakespeare Inn and The Globe Inn (where Burns was a regular) are literally a few hundred yards apart. You could have a nice little pub crawl between the two venues. Just take the leftover roast beef sandwiches with you!!

That's a great idea Bertie! I have to tell you it was a resounding success and everyone really enjoyed it. From the speeches, the heckling, the impromptu readings, the roast beef supper, the continuous jokes about the World Cup, the singing of My Love is like a Red Red Rose and the general atmosphere, it was just great and it will certainly be a yearly fixture. Only thing is, I never thought in a million years my house would ever look like this:

Why is the drinks cabinet sealed?

It isn't - there isn't even glass on there, it's open. My bar is open to all Englishmen Roger. When once an Englishman was visiting and we offered him a whisky, he answered, "I'd rather be raped and ravished by whores all the way to America than drink anything that's Scottish!"
To which the malt loving Mr Govangirl replied: "Och, Ah didna ken there wuz a choice!"
