Bath Puzzle

Postby Hume » Thu Feb 02, 2006 2:44 pm

A bath has two taps.

On its own the hot tap would take 6 mins to fill the bath if fully turned on.

On its own the cold tap would take 5 mins to fill the bath if fully turned on.

A full bath would take 3 mins to empty with the plug out and no taps on.

With both taps on fully and the plug out how long will it take to fill the bath?
Should Scotland be an Independent country?

Yes, I believe Scotland is a country and should therefore govern itself.
No, Scotland is not a country it is simply part of the UK and should therefore be governed from London.

As it empties quicker than it fills, then the bath will never fill up, so best take a shower.

Someone has already got it but to illustrate the point:

After 30 mins eleven bathfuls will have come out the two taps while the ten bathfuls will have drained leaving you with a full bath.
