 That made me laugh out loud!

I used to love those orange weird-shaped ice things - were they called Jublies or something? And also MB Bars and those wee penny 'sweet potatoes' that had a wee plastic gift inside that you found as you ate through it - Elf n Safety these days would have a heart attack!

And Spangles..........................and Lifeboys........................and Lucky Numbers too.

And down here nobody knows what Pan Bread or a syboe is!!!!!

I have absolutely no idea!

It does, however bring to mind a story I read in a newspaper once about a teacher from south of the border who got a job in Annan Academy. It seems that she was having problems with the local lingo.

She got into trouble for giving detention to a pupil from the village of Ecclefechan. His parents were alarmed when he did not come home.

Apparently she caught him running in the corridor at the end of the school day and hauled him into her classroom to explain why he was running. His response was what prompted her to give him detention:

“Ah’m tryin tae catch the ‘Fechan bus”

Thats so bizarre it could only be true.

No Tam Cowan did the Ecclefechan joke on Off the Ball one day, and people had to phone and say other Scottish place names that they could put into a song. It was quite funny actually, Tam and Stuart Cosgrove are much better on the radio than they are on TV or in print.
