paul mcartney to use pipe band from private school

mccartney has enlisted members of loretto pipe band to back him playing mull of kintyre at next sundays hampden concert,its the only venue where the song will be played on his british tour. surely this is a slap in the face to the kintyre schools bands. does anyone know if the ksb where approached to do the concert. :

A Kintyre pipe band would have been great. Looking forward to next Sunday as tickets have arrived.

I don't see your reasoning for such a statement.Surely he is entitled to employ who he so wishes(it's not as if they are Polish).Anyways it wasn't the KSB that was on the recording of MoK as you will well know.

PS I suppose All the music programs out for the Xbox / PS3 etc wont be helping.... Amazing the amout of people
I have in the shop wanting Xbox Guitar Hero gear..... It's a shame really.....

You know Ionns, I was thinking the same as you (must be me on the medication!) because they're not on any of the 'Grand Resident Theft Evil Auto I'm going to kill your narcs Granny' material most 9 year-olds play. Good on them Maxmix! A great many of them may well move on to a real guitar next.

my reasoning for such as statement is very simple, with the ties paul mccartney has with kintyre it would have been a nice gesture to ask the kspb to play mull of kintyre at his concert next sunday.

Well strictly speaking, I was referring to maxmix and his values. Nonetheless yes, ( your point ) the young people buying the guitar thing, should be highlighted as positive.

if this is the case then why at this mornings chanter competition there was 39 school kids competing!!! then from 2pm it was the bagpie competition.
The papers should get their facts correct before going to print.

What "press" was this?
I can relate that last year when I was playing pipes at a show in Oban for a bus party of tourists from the Midlands, some of them came and spoke to me asking what it was like being one of the last few exponents of a dying art.
I could not believe it!
Piping
throughout the world and in Argyll in particular has never been stronger in terms of the numbers of young people learning the instrument.
It makes you wonder how some of these misconceptions come about.

I think the reference to 'one eleven-year-old' learning the pipes was made specifically in the context of there being only one youngster of that age training with the Campbeltown Pipe Band. There are much larger numbers coming through the school system. It's possible that Sir Paul or his 'people' may not have been aware of that, or of the quality of the school bands.
