I felt the plastic
touched it's thin veneer
they who should remain nameless
their voices digitally mastered
struck - as I touched plastic
they screamed for attention
demanding the devotion - the mediocre
conformity servility - those dreaded twins
conceived in the mind of mammon.

Slipstream.

For Dawn, who recently lived.

In the slipstream of my memory,
In a half-forgotten dream,
I thought I caught a glimpse
of gold, glinting in a stream.

I thought I saw a chestnut mare
Running free across a beach;
Reminiscent of a rainbow,
So near, so out of reach.

And linen white and denim blue
Were the colours that belonged to you
For cloudy days and starry nights
I saw reflected in your eyes
When life was still a sweet surprise
And if I had the chance again
I'd re-arrange
But I don't so...

I drank some water from the stream,
It seeemed so fresh and cool.
I plucked some thyme from the waterside
And brought it here to you.

That was lovely Hugh. Can I also say that I've never heard the phrase
hugh wrote:who recently lived

which is beautiful and so much more relevant than focusing on the death part. Lovely. Sorry for your loss, x

Thanks Govan Girl, but I've got to say it wasn't that recent and it was a far greater loss to others. Just someone who crossed my mind recently.

It is an ancient goalkeeper
And he stoppeth one of three
With his dithery mind and dodgy eyes
He should have been a referee.

Haiku for Haggis

Haggis not English:
Just Scots are so smart we don't
have to write it down
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

HIM - Heartache Every Moment

From lashes to ashes
And from lust to dust
In your sweetest torment
I'm lost
And no heaven can help us
Ready, willing and able
To lose it all
For a kiss so fatal
And so warm

Oh it's heartache every moment
From the start 'til the end
It's heartache every moment
With you
Deeper into our heavenly suffering
Our fragile souls are falling
It's heartache every moment
Baby with you

And we sense the danger
But don't wanna give up
'Cause there's no smile of an angel
Without the wrath of god

Oh it's heartache every moment
From the start 'til the end
It's heartache every moment
With you
Deeper into our heavenly suffering
Our fragile souls are falling
It's heartache every moment
Baby with you
My darling with you

From lashes to ashes
And from lust to dust
In your sweetest torment
I am lost
And we sense the danger
But don't wanna give up

Oh it's heartache every moment
From the start 'til the end
It's heartache every moment
With you
Deeper into our heavenly suffering
Our fragile souls are falling
It's heartache every moment with you
That's right

My Erstwhile Friend (Artery Glue)

I built you up too far
And now the pedestal I put you on
Has fallen and crushed this heart like ice
Your halo is burning away your scalp
If love is a minefield then Ive lost all my limbs
First time there's no joy in being proved right

And now at night I can't close my eyes
Sleep is replaced by this agony prize

No salvation in this cage
So I accept what you decide
I tore it all down
When I failed to survive

Mountains climbed with a broken back
But I buckled under the weight
Of how I made myself feel for you
I lost my wings, now blackened fossils
Mouth won't shut, Read the wrong lines
But this self-pity tastes so good.

Im now shrouded in shadow
As Ive burned out my light
And now Ive seen
That its useless to fight

Pick up the pieces of this heart
Sit back and take your next attack

Youve answered the question I never asked
And all this time I knew it was wrong
Youre Dante's muse with a story to tell
But Im left with nothing, all hope is gone

I feel you when I wake
Even though weve never touched
Pull out my veins and make a noose
This love is Gods curse

Cos Im crucified so close to the ground
Feel what I want but never be found
Bubbles that come together must burst
Stay away, cos I need this hurt

I find it hard to trust in
Three sticks held at the wrong end
So Ill put all my faith in
Suicide, my erstwhile friend.

Right you get up here
Right this minute lassie
Just you wait until yer Da's hame
The shout echo's through - bouncing off
Empty backs - an auld dug in the midden
Sniffing an empty ash covered screw tap
See that Linda wan - where the hell is she ?

Red the Poppy with flimsy leaf
One minute silence bugle call
We watch them go
As we watched them fall

Bright red poppy and the BBC
Newsreaders One Two Three
Politicians Blair or Brown
Serving the country Queen and Crown

Widow smiles stiff upper lip
Reinforces that English bit
He was a hero a special man
Ended his life in Afghanistan

More respect when your dead
Billy Joe and Uncle Fred
So what the story what the catch
What the plot what the hatch

Red the poppy on Afghan field
How much the worth
We want the yield
Worth Joe and Tommy on foreign field.

On the first day of Christmas
flaky paint revealed rust circles
spreading the way they do
on the lattice metal bars
slam the bang echoes across the hall
muffling the sound of pendulum swinging chains
controlled by the weight of cell block keys
wardens full of the joys and festive cheer
greet each other - me - well I'm not here. :D
