St Kieran

Does anyone here know anything about the our local Saint Keiran or Ciaran? It is recognised that he founded a church in the Campbeltown area, hence the old name for the town Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain. Where did he come from and what is known about his life? I have seen it stated that he was St Ciaran of Clonmacnoise, but on researching this Irish saint there is no mention of him ever having left Ireland. Is anything accurate actually known about him? Did he really live in the cave at Auchinhoan? It's a pretty bleak place to live, even for a saint! Did he use the cave for religious services?

Also, while we are on the subject, what was the St Blaan connection with Southend? It appears that St Blane (Blaan) was born on the Isle of Bute and educated in Ireland. Did he live for a time in Southend? Did he stay there for a time when travelling between Scotland and Ireland? Dunblane is named after him. Was this the same person as Southend's St Blaan? Am I even on the right track here? The late Angus MacVicar used the name "Blaan" as a fictitious name for Southend, in his books, such as "The Black Wherry".

Lot of questions there, and it is a long time ago, but is there any information on these people who must have been very influential in their time and are part of our local history??????
