The Government of Canada provided funding to commemorate the McVannel Family that settled as tenant farmers in 1862,
on Concession 3, Lot 30, Sarawak, Georgian Bluffs, Grey County, Ontario, Canada.

Lot 30 is now part of the 600 acre Cobble Beach Golf Resort.

John McVannel and his wife Janet Gillies, (married in 1854) first settled in King Township, York, (Toronto), Ontario, Canada.

Janet Gillies arrived in King Township as a young child from Scotland, with her parents Daniel Gillies and Catherine Loudon in 1842, her Grandparents Thomas Gillies and Johanna Campbell had arrived earlier.

Janet Gillies died February 15, 1867 age 33, Not 1864 as the plaque suggests.
John McVannel was on the Census in Bruce County in 1881, he saved enough money to buy a farm in 1878.
Concession 15, Lot 33, Keppel, near Wiarton, Ontario.

John McVannel died December 18th 1882 age 59, of pneumonia.
Both John and Janet and A days old Grandchild (John McVannel) are buried in Greenwood Cemetery,OwenSound, Ontario, Canada. (Listed on Find a Grave.com)

There are living "McVannel" descendants living in Bruce County.

I've followed John McVannel Family Tree back to Peter McVannel (1769-1815) & wife Mary McCallum in Kilcalmonell, and
the Loup Estate, but ive not found anymore information. If anyone could help.

Marc
Grey County, Ontario, Canada.
