Help! wee toon/japan, whisky connection, Hazelburn

Postby SBpete » Wed May 21, 2008 3:09 pm

The Japanese are now very well known throughout the world for producing excellent whisky, including Single Malts.
What is less known is that Masataka Taketsuru http://www.nikka.com/eng/founder/index.html, the first person to distil whisky in Japan, learnt some of his trade at Hazelburn Distillery, Campbeltown. He would have been at Hazelburn around 1918-1919.
This year is the 150th anniversary of the treaty of commerce between the UK and Japan. To celebrate this some articles/booklets are being produced and I have been contacted to see if Springbank Distillery had any pictures of Hazelburn Distillery. Unfortunately we don't, therefore I thought this was a good excuse to see if there are any pictures out there of Hazelburn, or any of the distilleries/workers/bottles or anything whisky related.

If you have anything, then please feel free to contact me on 01586 552009.

cheers

Peter
