Victorian Photograpy in Kintyre

Postby calmac » Wed Mar 21, 2018 7:35 pm

On another forum I have seen a picture of some of my ancestors who lived in Kintyre towards the close of the nineteenth Century. Unfortunately the photo is not dated, but I would put it possibly 1875-1900.

Does anyone know the names of photographers in the area at that time? Photography would be juts becoming popular.

Apologies if this is the wrong section to post in. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello calmac, I have studio one taken by a Mr J E. Purves of Campbeltown. Stamped on the front of a postcard framing that of my gt,grandmother, Mary Stewart Murray McCulloch b1879-1914 looks as if taken a year or two before her marriage to Lawrence Mckinven 1900.Hope that helps.

That is very helpful indeed. In 1900 there were not so many photographers around
