Trig points of Kintyre

Postby Ship called Dignity » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:56 pm

Trig points in Kintyre came up in conversation last night and I wondered if anyone knew where they all are? Or at least some of them so a full list can be put together..

Great subject and the makings of a good thread.

Off the top of my head I know there are trig points at Escart, Carradale golf course, Deer Hill Carradale (Cnoc nan Gabhar)Beinn an Tuirc, Kildonald Point, Sgreadan Hill, Davaar, Cnoc Odhar, Cnoc Moy, Creag Bhan (Gigha), Rhunahaorine Point and one I visited only today: Cnoc a Bhaile-shios

Not all trig points are obvious, they don't always look like the concrete pillars that most people are familiar with. They are, however, all marked on 1:25000 OS maps as a blue triangle with a blue dot in its centre.

The lowest Trig Point in Scotland is in Kintyre at Rhunahaorine Point just along from Points Sands Holiday Park at only 3 meters above sea level!

Thinking about the original post here, what would be better than a list would be a picture of each one. I've got a few ;)

That should be a CLOSE-UP picture BTW ;)

Forgot all about that one. Doh!

Not that I'm suggesting anything, but these pictures have to have been taken personally and not trawled from the interweb.

That said http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1429211 :)

I knew I had a decent one from Cnoc Moy somewhere on a hard drive.

Taken 1st June 2007 on a blisteringly hot day.
