My 2011 visit

Postby chrisduffy » Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:34 pm

We came up for our annual summer visit last week in August, based in Southend as usual, how can a week go so fast?

Had a longer stopover in Inverary than usual, so walked (climbed?) up to the watchtower for a great view of the town, castle and loch.

Thank you for the great pics Chris. We were in Inverary during the last week of August as well, we may have passed in the street. I remember saying to my husband, "how the hell does anyone climb up to the tower?" Well done!

Looks like you had a great visit, Chris. Always wanted to see the view from the watch tower at Inverary, now I have :) I really should take the time to visit the castle myself.

Nice to see a piece of solid Leeds engineering too ;)

I sure did!
good job they have that bench at the top, most of the walk up is on forestry type tracks though the last bit through the trees circles the hill and is a bit steep and slippery when wet.
Crowth, The castle is a great visit with a fantastic display of weaponry, but unfortunately no photography, I can imagine the pictures from the watchtower on a clearer day would be brilliant :)
I will try and upload video of the view later.

wow, great pics Chris.

How long did it take you to walk up from the carpark? We are up there in October and (as you do) will make the customary stop in Inveraray, so may just take a hike up there. Ok for my 12 year old daughter too dya think?

Thanks Chris,
Looking at the times on my camera, I took about 1 and a half hrs there and back with a reasonable time at the top to get my breath back
A lot of the walk is on rough vehicle tracks through the trees, just the last steep bit can be a bit slippy if its wet, but there are small trees/ shrubs to grab a hold if needed, cant see any problem for an active 12 year old, only thing i would say is wear suitable footwear, I didnt and nearly spent most of the way down on my backside!
Hope you find time to do it, i would say allow a couple of hours and if you do it, let us know, :)
