Kintyre's Bird and Wildlife.

Kilkerran road by Campbeltown Lochs resident Herons. Most times I visit the town I take a wee run down Kilkerran as far as the nato jetty to catch a glimpes of these stature birds going about there business of catching small fish and eels along the shoreline. The poses and shapes they get into when about to strike is amazing. No joy yesterday on catching something as it was to busy watching me.

Two resident or visiting goats at the Gauldrons last week. "Machrihanish" or anyone else know were they came from?

probably originally from one of the farms on the estate JD, might be a reference in one of my old books somewhere. They have been there as long as I can remember and old folks say they have been there a long time too.
I'll have a look and let you know.
Great pictures as always :)

Kintyre Wildlife

Postby Ship called Dignity » Sun Feb 28, 2010 8:04 pm

Thought I would create a new thread dedicated to wildlife in Kintyre.

If anyone wants to send photos I'll try and post these time permitting. Otherwise look forward to seeing your photos on here. 8)

Here's a couple to start with

Aye but yours was Birds AND Wildlife so was a bit wary about entering that thread incase it was some cult thing that goes on up in the Dale! ;-) Cheers JD, now merged. 8)

Think they were released from either Killypole or Mingary when they were abandoned.

Some great shots, wildlife photography is my favourite kind (at the moment). This is a buzzard I shot (only with my camera  ) around Kilkenzie

As common as buzzards are these days, I still love seeing 'em. Lovely pic :)

yes, it does look like a sparrowhawk, or even a red-tailed hawk. It's just me simply because I imagine all buzzards as the particularly unattractive kind we have here....more 'vulture'-like. But this one is quite beautiful!

Great photo 'What', i have been trying to get a shot like that for years but they wont stay still for me :( .

Seen many over the years on telegraph poles and so on, but as soon as you stop the vehicle they fly off.

I was driving up the back road out of Carradale (B842) and at cour when a buzzard swooped down onto the grass verge just ahead of me. I stopped the van, grabbed the camera and was about to take the shot when it flew off with a mouse in one talon  .

Thank you very much! :D

There wasn't much time to take this, as it flew off a few seconds later...
