Do you still have the gannets following the mackeral shoals into the harbour and diving spectacularily to catch them? Come to think of it do lads still catch mackeral, and what my fatherused to refer to as "glessyins,"off the old pier in the summer months?

Aye Roger, I would imagine the gannets would be pretty scarce in Staffordshire.
Just as a piece of trivia did you know that our first Scottish First Minister Donald Dewar, was nicknamed "The Gannet"?

I have seen many gannet's performing in my fisherman days,magnificent aerobatic birds when diving. Not very often you will get this close to a gannet,but unfortunately despite looking well this bird (was ill) did not survive .
