HMS Daring off Carradale

Postby jdcarra » Fri Sep 05, 2008 10:10 am

I was caught off the hop yesterday as HMS Daring http://hmsdaring.com/
came down the Kilbrannan Sound passing Carradale. My wife returning from the town spotted it way off Torrisdale heading south. I looked on the ship spotter site http://www.aisliverpool.co.uk/currentma ... rthChannel and saw her course. At today you can see it is in the River Clyde area. Many thanks to my camera club colleague Martin on the Shore road who kindly posted me these pics.

She nearly caught me out too, but I just had time to dash along to the golf course and take a couple as she was starting her turn towards Arran. She's currently at the RN fuel jetty on Loch Striven. Shame she didn't just come into Campbeltown to fill-up last night.

(p.s. She's not actually HMS Daring until she's handed over to the RN next year. Till then she's just Daring.)

When we were at Muasdale late July/early August, we saw, on a very misty evening, what looked like a naval vessel crossing the bay from the south, sail alongside Islay, cross over to Cara`s southern end, then turn and go back whence she came. Would that have been the Daring? :?

I saw the vessel off Muasdale via our telescope, it was HM Customs - they launched a rib and chased after a Yacht just off Gigha, which they reached "in the mist" - could just see them - after that the mist closed in and we could not see any more of the action :(

Thank you all for clearing up that little mystery for me. If it hadn`t been so very misty I might have got a better look at her.
