GOLD in GLASGOW

Becky Dott from Kintyre Amateur Swimming Club took first place in the 50m freestyle in a time of 33.12 seconds in the City of Glasgow graded long course meet at Tollcross leisure centre in Glasgow held over the weekend of the 5th and 6th February.

Disappointed with her swim in the 200m freestyle on Saturday where she finished in 5th place in a time of 2:51.81 secs, Becky showed a determined effort to win the gold over the shorter distance the following day. She followed this with two excellent swims winning silver in both the 100m breaststroke (1:40.16) and the 100m freestyle (1:15.88). Four swimmers from Campbeltown competed in the two day event, this our clubs first venture to swimming competition outside Argyll & Bute. Caitlin Campbell swam very well in the 50m butterfly finishing in a time of 40.99 seconds taking a deserved 3rd place. Andrew Kay finished 4th equal in the 11 year old boys 50m butterfly (46.02) and went one step better in the 100m butterfly winning the bronze in a time of 1:44.38. Not to be outdone by her team-mates Aimee McGougan also brought home a medal in what was a determined swim over 4 lengths of the 50m pool in the 200m freestyle. She came home fast in a time of 2:47.70 to win the bronze medal. The Kintyre swimmers had another eight top six finishes with many p.b’s swum over the weekend.

This was a fantastic achievement from our swimmers in such a big event with 23 Clubs from across Scotland including; Dyce (Aberdeen), Heart of Midlothian, Perth City, Ren96 Swim Team, Stirling Swim as well as City of Glasgow taking part in the two day event held in this 50m pool with 10 lanes.

Swimmers from Kintyre ASC will next travel to Islay on Saturday 19th March to compete in a ‘friendly’ gala with Islay & Jura Dolphins ASC and our top training squad swimmers will then head to Johnstone Pool over the weekend of the 26th and 27th March to compete in REN 96 short course graded meet.
