Pupils Withdraw Reserve Team from SAFL

Unfortunately, Campbeltown Pupils AFC has been forced to abandon plans of maintaining a reserve team in the SAFL. Hopes were high at the beginning of the season that the club’s ambitious plans to run two sides in the national league could be achieved; however, as the season progressed the situation gradually became unworkable. The decision to withdraw wasn’t taken lightly, as people responsible for the second team had invested a lot of time and effort in trying to make it work; however, fielding two separate squads every week from a submitted list of registered players would prove unworkable.

The Pupils are not alone in this respect, as a number of teams from the league’s non-premier section have found similar difficulties and, have also indicated their intentions to return to a single squad system. As a result, the SAFL will reduce its non-premier section from three divisions to a maximum of two for season 2011/2012. Both of the Pupils squads will be retained and registered with the SAFL for the new season, the younger members introduced at a local level and, through a series of friendlies against other Argyll and SAFL clubs with similar ambitions. Many of the younger members will make the breakthrough to SAFL team sooner rather than later, so if you are interested and, can give the level of commitment required, we are certainly interested in hearing from you.

I think it will be interesting to see what chances the youngsters actually get :? Not just picking on the Pupils, but my experiences with set-ups like it seems to be at clubs is that it always seems that it actually be harder to get dropped from the team. Then the youngsters will drift away and then the team will struggle because the disillusioned players just give up the game all together. Time will tell, but if your face fits etc :|

If you attended the matches this year you would have hardly failed to notice that a high percentage of boys are under the age of twenty-one, some even much younger than this. The Pupils present squad is by far the youngest in the league set-up, and, have naturally struggled in more mature company for most of the season. Their time will come and hopefully I'll still be around to see this when it happens. The arguement you present is hardly a new one, as it pervades all grades of football right to the top. The people who pick the team do so with the best intentions, it would be crazy not to select what one considers his best eleven. Everyone has an opinion and I respect what you have to say, but rest assured, if a player is good enough and is totally committed to the cause week in week out he will be picked.
