Scottish Amateur Football League Premier Division 2
Campbeltown Pupils AFC 2 v 1 Clydebank AFC

Campbeltown Pupils kept their promotion hopes very much alive today in a gutsy performance against an experienced Clydebank side. In what was certainly not a game for the faint hearted the young local side battled through 90 minutes to secure all three points to maintain their second spot in the Scottish Amateur Premier Division with seven leagues games now remaining.

It was the away side who took the lead against the run of play when a pass back to goalkeeper Craig Lamont took the most unfortunate bobble as Lamont kicked the ball out and resulted in leaving the Clydebank forward, Martin Currie, an easy road to put his side 1-0 up. Nonetheless, the Pupils lifted their heads and slowly clawed their way back into the game with fifteen minutes of the half remaining and were rewarded when a through ball found Ryan Gilchrist who showed composure beyond his years to cooly slot the ball home past the Clydebank keeper. David Johnstone had a chance to make it 2-1 to the Campbeltown side but was thwarted by an excellent save from the Bankies number 1 with just a few minutes of the half remaining. Half Time 1-1

The second hald was a dull encounter with both sides determinded to spoil the game with countless fouls, agression and language directed at the referee that beggared belief. The Pupils secured all three points with less ten minutes left when Grant Grant found young Gregor McFayden who, similar to Gilchrist in the first half, kept his cool to calmly stroke the ball past the Clydebank keeper and make it 2-1 much to the delight of the home support.

With seven games remaining Campbeltown Pupils remain second and will face an exciting and tough run in.
