Stronvaar 2 Slateford 2 ----but

Postby oorly gourlay » Sun May 29, 2005 10:00 pm

The Scottish Top Ten quarter final between Stronvaar and Slateford in Edinburgh ended in a major disappointment for the local club. Backed by a "Barmy Army" ( I hate that expression (bloody cricket) but have no alternative) of around 40 very vociferous, you could hear them over the phone, supporters the team clawed its way back from losing the four out of four matches at halfway to winning 2 out of four at the close of play. In the singles, John McLean, up against former world triples winner Robert Marshall, proved that he was up for a scrap by coming back from a huge deficit to only lose by by 5 shots. Be proud wee man. Slateford were so keen to win this one, Marshall gave up an international trial match to play. Wins for Jimmy Anderson and Archie Johnston in the pairs and Steven Dickson, Dugald Graham and John Johnston in the triple could not compensate for the shots lost by the rink (4's) in their match allowing Slateford, one of the country's major clubs to qualify by 3 shots. We wish them all the best in the finals at Eddlewood and thank them for their supreb hospitality.

On a much more serious matter, Stronvaar sends its best wishes to Ian McMillan of the Argyll Club and his friend Keith Mathieson and their friends in their recovery from the injuries suffered in their car accident on Friday. We are all thinking of you.

Ranald, can you pick up on this, it'll save me some time tomorrow?

Cheers Ranald, that's a long lie. The troops have just phoned from CBC and they are as sick as the proverbial parrots.
