a last minute addition to SAFL Premier 2 means there is a full quota of 10 teams in the division.

Celtic Community Club has been admitted to the Premier section. Home games are expected to be played at Barrowfield, failing that at Lennoxtown. Hence the club is affiliated with Celtic FC.

From what I understoond the club gives boys who are not being offered pro contracts at the end of their youth contracts the opportunity to remain under the Celtic banner instead of perhaps going to part time pro teams.

Tarbert has drawn them away in the Jimmy Marshall Trophy Round 1.
Should Scotland be an Independent country?

Yes, I believe Scotland is a country and should therefore govern itself.
No, Scotland is not a country it is simply part of the UK and should therefore be governed from London.

Late Eaglesham Goal Stuns Pupils
Campbeltown Pupils 0 Eaglesham 1

A goal in the last ten minutes of an evenly fought contest finally seperated the teams at Kintyre Park last Saturday. Premier Division One is beginning to shape up as a very good league, one where the respective fixtures are anything but a forgone conclusion.

An indifferent start to the season continued for the home side, and, having dominated a large percentage of the possession, they were unable to turn this adavntage into goals. Not that Eaglesham were taking this lying down, quite the opposite was the case. A well-organised side that was compact in defence, the visitors had the advantage of the excellent Alan Dunning, an experienced forward who was a threat throughout the match.

Bhoyed by the return of Neil McKay between the sticks, the early pressure exerted by the visitors was repulsed by a defiant home defence. The McFadyen Contractors sponsored Pupils gradually gained control of the match, and, were unlucky not to take the lead when a speculative Chris Thompson header struck the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten.

The Pupils lead-up play was attractive to watch, but unfortunately lacked the cutting edge normally associated with their forward play. Most of the home side's attacks foundered on the end of a high cross ball, a ploy easily cut-out by the visitors goalkeeper.

The early part of the second-half was the home side's best period, and, once more they had the opportunity to take the lead when a well-driven effort from Thompson was kicked off the line before being scrambled to safety. This was followed by the chance of the match when Alan Sinclair raced clear with fifteen minutes remaining. With Paul Grumoli supporting down the left flank, the speedy winger tried to take on the last man and was stopped by a last ditch tackle.

After this things started to swing in favour of the visitors, a sweeping move from Eaglesham being unlucky not to bring a better result. Forward Barr was found free in front of goal, but the forwards parting volley raged the wrong side of the post. Neil McKay proved his class with a fine save from a point blank header, by now the game becoming stretched as both sides searched for full points.

With ten minutes remaining Eaglesham made the crucial breakthrough when Alan Dunning raced clear through the middle. On this occasion the forward had time to steady himself, this, before lofting the ball over a spread-eagled Neil McKay to seal the points.

The Pupils threatned throughout the match, but the team's fine possession play wasn't matched in the final attacking third, normally one of the side's strongest features. The day belonged to the defender, the home's lack of penetration and, the absence of a final telling ball crucial in the reverse.

Best for the Pupils were Sean Grumoli and the experienced Craig Colville. The return of Neil McKay was also a big plus on a day when things just didn't go to plan.

There is no fixture this Saturday as the club have a free date.

Away Win For Pupils - 17th October 2009
Kings Park 1 Campbeltown Pupils 3

Showing four changes from the last fixture, the McFadyen sponsored Pupils travelled to the superb facilities of Glasgow Green in the hope of a positive result to kick-start the club's season.

The Pupils settled quickly on a near perfect surface, showing intent by taking the game to Kings Park in the early stages of the match. The visitors lead-up play was attractive to watch, with Keith Mitchell particularly comfortable with ball to feet.

The Pupils grabbed the lead in the twenty-fifth minute of the match, Chris Thomson breaking clear to send a vicious daisy-cutter goalbound. The home goalkeeper could only parry the ball into the path of the incoming Paul Grumoli, who made no mistake with a clinical strike into the net.

The home goalkeeper proved to be something of an ace card for his side, the custodian's kicking from hand or dead ball a joy to watch. The Pupils defence found themselves in difficulty when trying to deal with the length of his kick, a partial clearance being vollied home in spectacular fashion by the 'Kings' number eight for the equaliser.

As the first half drew to a close, both teams could reflect on an evenly fought match that did not produce to many chances in front of goal.

Kings exerted more pressure in the second-half, although the the Pupils defence copped well with anything coming its way. The visitors regained the lead on the hour when Sean Grumoli stepped in to break up an attack. Striding forward, the central defender sent a great ball beyond the home side's defensive line, brother Gary Grumoli scoring with a fine angled drive beyond the advancing goalkeeper.

Kings Park were awarded a penalty when David Anderson was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box. The resultant kick was brilliantly saved by Graham Cook, who dived to his left to turn the ball away. The almighty scramble that folowed ended with the ball being cleared to safety as the visitors heaved a sigh of relief.

With eight minutes remaining the Pupils sealed the win, a quick break by Darren McGillvray resulting in the crucial third goal. The midfield playmaker sent a perfect pass to release Paul Grumoli on the right flank, who, taking the ball in his stride, sent an accurate ball across the box. A Gary Grumoli shot from six yards struck the crossbar, the rebound rammed home in convincing fashion by Ewan McIlroy to clinch the points.

The Pupils are at home on Saturday 24th October against West of Scotland Premier opposition Harmony Row. This 2nd round West of Scotland Cup tie kicks-off at 2pm and, will be played to a finish. Harmony Row will provide stiff competition, a club who numbers Sir Alex Ferguson as one of its ex-players.

A severe overnight frost caused major problems to the fixtures in the Scottish Amateur Football League with many clubs arriving at their grounds to find parks solid and unplayble. Both the Pupils league fixture away to Carlton YM and Tarbert's home game to Argyll rivals were late call offs.

Campbeltown Boys travelled to West Dunbartonshire and couldn't continue their form of late going down 2-0.

30th January 2010
Premier 2 Kilbowie Union 2 - 0 Campbeltown Boys

Fixtures for next week still to be released.

I was surprised to pass the Meadows this afternoon and see no match on. Could the other team not make it?

Think the Boys fixture was set to be played down Kinloch but called off. Not sure why but someone seemed to think it was frost!

There was a game due on Meadows too - young boys (don't know if it was a school team) but heard the other team couldn't make it.

Pity, was a good afternoon for it, but I headed for the beach instead anyway. 8)

Campbeltown Pupils went down 2-1 away to Arkleston last Saturday but look to make amends this Saturday at home to Busby.

20th February 2010
Premier 1 Campbeltown Pupils v Busby AFC 14:00 John Scott
Premier 2 Campbeltown Boys v Dunoon 14:00 Jimmy Lister
Premier 2 Celtic Comm.Acad v Tarbert 14:00 John Campbell

Arkleston 2 Campbeltown Pupils 1

The McFadyen sponsored Campbeltown Pupils are still trying to get their league campaign on an even keel, the latest set-back, a narrow away defeat to this week's league leaders Arkleston. There is very little to choose between any of the sides in this year's Premier One, and, the local favourites are now under pressure to produce the kind of results we all know they are capable of.

The Pupils raced into the lead in the first few minutes of the game, a good attacking move ending with the ball being handled in the box. Shaun Grumoli confidently converted the spot-kick to give the visitors the perfect start.

Although competing well enough in most areas of the park, the Pupils play was disjointed, with too many long balls played from back to front. This allowed the home side to have the lion's share of the possesion, as the ball was given away far too easily.

Arkleston pressed forward at every opportunity, but the visitors held firm, Craig Colville in the Pupils goal making a couple of one-handed saves to keep his goal intact. The visitors competed well enough and, continually dulled the threat of the home side, however, the equaliser did arrive when an angled drive found the corner of the Pupils net in the 22nd minute of the match.

Just before half-time, a fine move from the visitors saw a Paul Grumoli effort fly wide of the target, no success, but a sharp warning for the home side that the Pupils were very much in this match.

The second-half followed the pattern of the first forty-five, with the Pupils defending in depth, but occasionally threatning to steal all three points on the break. Just when it looked as if the match would end in a draw, a corner-kick produced a dramatic breakthrough for the home side. The ball cleared the Pupils defence to reach the far post, where a first time volley from ten yards broke the deadlock.

With minutes remaining it was almost all-square, a through ball beating the Arkleston defence to set Gary Grumoli free. With the goalkeeper in no man's land, the striker tried to switch feet to make sure, a fatal error of judgement as it allowed the chasing defender time to make a last-ditch tackle and save the day.

Tommorow, Saturday 20th February, Campbeltown Pupils are at home on league duty against Busby. The kick-off time is 2pm at Kintyre Park.

Only seven SAFL fixtures were played yesterday with both the Pupils and Boys games cancelled in Campbeltown due to frozen pitches. Tarbert were the only Kintyre side who were able to play and it was a return to winning ways for the Dookers as they ran out 6-1 winners away to Celtic Community Academics. (match report below). Elsewhere there were wins for Argyll sides Oban Saints and Lochgilphead. Oban Saints are now making a real push for the Premier Championship and sit proudly top of the tabele. With 7 games left the title is theirs to grab.

Premier Greenock HSFP 2 - 1 Castlemilk AFC
Premier Oban Saints 2 - 0 Postal Utd
Premier 2 Celtic Comm.Acad 1 - 6 Tarbert

Division 1 Lochgilphead 6 - 2 Rosehill Star
Division 2b Auldhouse 5 - 0 Port Glasgow Hibs
Division 2b Millerston Thistle 3 - 1 Jamestown

27th February 2010

Premier 2 Rolls Royce EK v Campbeltown Boys 14:00 Don Flanagan
Premier 2 Tarbert v Dunoon 14:00 Jimmy Lister

Celtic CA 1 - 6 Tarbert AFC

Tarbert were looking to get back to winning ways on saturday after 4 losses in succession, leaving them with an uphill struggle to gain on the Premier two leaders.
The WATT Plumbers and AMAC sponsored side started in a rather sloppy fashion, losing the ball cheaply, much to the dismay of gaffer MacNab on the touchline. They did however start to take control of the game, pressing their opponents further up the park. They were looking more determined also chasing every ball down, and this hard work was to lead to the opening goal. A corner from David Ronald was whipped into the box and Johnson rose above his marker to power a header past the keeper. 0-1.

This sparked Tarbert into life and were playing some good football on the astro surface, giving the Celtic players no time on the ball. The second followed soon after when Jamie Stuart hit a cracking effort from 25 yards, the ball hitting the crossbar before falling to MacIver 6 yards out, the young midfielder finishing with ease. 0-2.

Gaffer MacNab continued to urge the team to keep pressing, and only minutes later the third had arrived. Guy played a quick free kick to Ronald, who turned his man and played a perfect through ball to Prentice, his first time shot beating the keeper to continue the strikers excellent scoring form. The game was being dominated by Tarbert now and they had time to add a fourth before half time when MacDougall sent Johnson down the left wing, he cut inside and hit a good finish into the right corner off the post.

Half time: Celtic 0 - Tarbert 4

The second half began with the Dookers still pressing however Celtic managed to pull a goal back against the run of play with some slack defending, their only flaw in an otherwise accomplished performance at the back.

This gave Celtic a lift and they had a period of 15 minutes where they seen a good slice of posession, until Prentice stepped up to finish the contest off. He started the move himself playing a neat one two with Johnson, before blasting the ball into the top corner. 1-5.

The final goal was created by the two subs Mackinnon and Mair. Millar fed a ball down the line to Iainy Mackinnon who outpaced two Celtic players before squaring the ball to Darren Mair who finished off from 6 yards to score with his first touch. Not a bad days work.

An importand 3 points for the Dookers who now have six league games left and currently occupy 4th spot in Premier two.

Tarbert Squad: J Martin, J Stuart, C Martin(capt), J Smyth, A Millar, D Ronald, D Guy, M MacIver, I Johnson, J Prentice, N MacDougall, I Mackinnon, I Smith, D Mair, C Johnstone.

Report from the Tarbert game last weekend when the Dookers beat Argyll rivals Dunoon for the second time this year. Campbeltown Boys suffered a hefty 8-0 defeat away to Rolls Royce EK with a depleted team. Pupils had no game again.

Tarbert 3 - 1 Dunoon

Tarbert welcomed Dunoon to Cil Andreis on saturday 27th February looking to pick another three points in their quest for promotion. Manager MacNab had a full compliment of players to choose from as he looked to steer the team to their first home victory of 2010.

The Dookers started the brighter, although the surface wasnt helping matters, cutting up very early on. They had a promising opening after 10 minutes when Prentice cut open the Dunoon defence with a fine pass to Johnson, however the midfielders first touch let him down, and the chance was gone. The away side did cause the Tarbert defence problems and almost took the lead when a cross into the box was headed over by the attacker. The breakthrough came after Johnson was fouled 25 yards from goal. Prentice took the free kick and hit a screamer into the net in off the bar. 1-0.

As the half wore on the majority of play was happening in the middle of the park, with a few meaty challenges being handed out from both sides. Prentices strike the only thing seperating the two sides at half time.

Gaffer MacNab gave the lads a stern talking to at half time, looking for more fight as he looked to close the game out. The second half started as the first had ended, a scrappy affair to say the least, but with an hour played Tarbert had doubled their lead and given themselves a cushion. A counter attack lead to Prentice out on the right, he crossed for Guy who bundled an effort over the line, much to the delight of the Cil Andreis crowd. 2-0.

As they looked to finish their opponents off, Tarbert got slack and conceded a cheap goal with 15 minutes to go. It came from a Tarbert corner, but a quick break gave the Dunoon forward a one on one with Martin in goal, and he finished well despite the strong suspicion of a foul on a home defender. 2-1.

This gave the away side the spark they needed to get something out of the game and it could have been 2-2 moments later however referee Lister whistled for offside.

The game was finely balanced when Tarbert managed to find the killer third goal, this time from a Ronald corner. He found Craig Martin with an inch perfect cross and the captain headed in from 6 yards for his first goal of the season.

Full time: Tarbert 3 - Dunoon 1

Tarbert squad: J Martin, J Stuart, C Martin(capt), J Smyth, A Miller, D Ronald, M MacIver, D Guy, I Johnson, J Prentice, I Mackinnon, C Elliott, I Smith, C Johnstone, S Currie, D Mair.

Next Sat fixtures see both Campbeltown sides on their travels while Tarbert have no fixture. You have to question the wisdom of the SAFL when they continually put both Campbeltown sides home and away at the same time...

13th March 2010

Campbeltown Boys - 2 v 0 Tarbert - Saturday 6th March 2010, Kinloch Park, Campbeltwon

Campbeltown Boys managed the double over their fellow Kintyre SAFL opponents today beating Tarbert 2-0 in a well contested match. Playing in perfect conditions the match drew a huge crowd as Kinloch Park basked in wonderful sunshine.

Two second half goals - one from Andrew Henderson (Twiggy) and a screamer from Kenneth Galbraith were enough for the Campbeltown side to take 3 valuable points from an entertaing fixture.
