GRAHAM TAKES ROUTE 66 TO AUTUMN MEETING GLORY
A glorious day at The Machrihanish Golf Club on Saturday 26th September 2009 saw players competing in the penultimate competition of the season the Autumn meeting.
In the pleasant conditions there were a host of excellent scores throughout the day, along with the many tales of woe!!!
A number of players returned net 68’s including D Johnson, a71-3, Malcolm Stalker home for the weekend scoring a super away score of 83-15 and Graham Anderso, despite an ugly six at the last, returning 76-8. All those players were, however, also rans in the prize list. In his build up to Turkey third place went to Lawrence Ferguson with a very steady 81-13=68(BIH) but it was Great dane Soren Hundebol, despite starting with a seven and having three sixes in his inward half including a six at the last, who took second place with 81-13 = 68(BIH). Clear winner of the handicap section with a superb score of 70-4 = 66 was David Graham. A very steady round from David with three birdies, including one at what regularly proves to be the hardest hole, the fourteenth saw him claim victory.
In the scratch section club champion George McMillan continued his tremendous season with another display of sparkling golf. Birdies at the sixth and ninth saw George out in 33. Back into the wind George dropped a shot at the eleventh but rallied in style with a birdie at twelve. All pars with a solitary bogey at the seventeenth saw George again break the seventy barrier with a great 69.
In the Senior section Willie McKerral again proved the master with his 102-18 = 84 and Graeme McKillop claimed the Junior prize with 85-10 = 75.
With the summer season drawing to a close Saturday Winter League members are reminded that they can collect their fixture lists from behind the bar. Fixtures commence on Saturday 10th October.
